Foodie By Nature was born from a story of resilience, love, and the belief that healing can begin with what we place on our plates.
My name is Sakeia Wingate, Founder and CEO of Foodie By Nature, LLC. I am a wife to my college sweetheart and business partner, DJ, and a proud boy mom to our two sons. But before I was an entrepreneur, before I was a brand builder, I was a patient fighting for my life.
In 2019, our family was navigating the physical and emotional toll of a cancer diagnosis and the grueling journey through chemotherapy and radiation. Like so many facing compromised health, we searched desperately for natural ways to rebuild strength, restore immunity, and support healing from the inside out. That search led us to sea moss — a powerful, mineral-rich superfood long celebrated for its restorative properties.
Sea moss quickly became part of our daily routine. We felt its benefits. We believed in its power.
But there was one problem — we absolutely did not love the taste.
So, in the middle of recovery, with hope in our hearts and curiosity in our kitchen, we decided to experiment.
What began as a personal solution turned into a passion project. Night after night, we played scientist and chef, blending organic fruits, herbs, teas, tonics, and homemade syrups with sea moss, determined to create something that was not only healing — but genuinely delicious. After months of testing, refining, and trusting our intuition, we finally created the perfect balance of flavor and function.
And just like that, in early 2020, Foodie By Nature, LLC was born.
Our very first creation — the original infused sea moss gel — wasn’t designed for the market. It was designed for survival, for restoration, and for our family’s future. But as friends and loved ones began to taste it, feel the difference, and ask for more, we realized this was bigger than us.
Today, Foodie By Nature stands on one simple belief: quality over quantity — and healing with intention.
Each jar of our premium sea moss gel is handcrafted with care and purpose. We source high-quality sea moss and blend it with organic fruits, herbs, and our own house-made syrups, teas, and tonics to enhance both flavor and function. And because freshness matters, every order is made fresh to ensure smooth texture, maximum potency, and uncompromised quality.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In early 2020, just as we were stepping into entrepreneurship, the world was shutting down.
Launching a wellness brand during a global pandemic came with extraordinary obstacles. Supply chains were unpredictable. Ingredients were difficult to source. Access to commercial kitchens, vendors, and packaging was limited. At times, even obtaining jars and shipping materials felt like a victory.
But beyond the logistical hurdles were the personal ones.
We were still healing — physically, emotionally, and financially — from the aftermath of cancer treatments. Recovery brought lingering fatigue, medical expenses, and the emotional weight of rebuilding life after survival. At the same time, we were navigating parenthood, protecting two young sons, and balancing full-time responsibilities while attempting to build a brand from our kitchen.
There were moments of doubt. Some days we questioned whether we were moving too fast or dreaming too big. We were learning everything as we went — from food safety regulations and labeling requirements to branding, marketing, and distribution — all while trying to protect our health and our family.
As first-time founders in the wellness space, credibility was another challenge. Educating customers about sea moss, overcoming skepticism, and standing out in a rapidly growing superfood market required patience, consistency, and relentless transparency. We refused to cut corners, even when it would have been easier or more profitable to do so.
