Community Highlights: Meet Sandi and Terrence Horan of Spooky Cat Press

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandi and Terrence Horan.

Hi Sandi and Terrence, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Spooky Cat Press is a passion project years in the making. We’re Halloween and Horror enthusiasts. We also both come from a pretty extensive background in graphic design, product design, and illustration. We’ve always wanted to collaborate with each other and combine our specific skill sets into a product of our own.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was a rocky start last year as we learned to navigate the e-com landscape. There was (and is) a lot of trial and error. We didn’t understand how much work it would be. From building out a proper website that runs smoothly to the refinement of our visual content. Even now, we’ve only scratched the surface in figuring out the scale of the e-marketplace and the advertising cost of reaching the right customers.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our brand, Spooky Cat Press, is a Gothic and Horror-themed e-boutique. Our goal was to tastefully integrate all our favorite spooky themes into elevated, usable products. We’re all about creating wearable goth clothing, elegant gift wrap & greeting cards, and other lifestyle products made for horror-loving, low-key goths like ourselves. We wanted to create a shared sensibility for beautifully designed spooky-themed products made for every day, every season, and every occasion.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
We have found a great community of spooky and gothic shops through Instagram. Networking has been essential to our growth and a great way to find support and advice from people who understand what you are going through. With social media, it’s easier than ever to connect with like-mind people and similar businesses.

This was such a marvelous read! The photos of their work is stunning and I learned so much about them, not just as an e-boutique but as genuine and creative people! I’m so glad they were published because I’ve never seen work like theirs before!
