Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrine Richmond
Hi Sherrine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always had a deep passion for women’s health and infants, which shaped the majority of my nursing career. Whether it was working in GYN oncology, or being a Flight Nurse for the Newborn intensive care unit, women and infants are my passion. My journey to becoming a nurse practitioner (NP) was inspired by my time at the health department, where I worked alongside midwives providing group prenatal education. Witnessing the equalizing power of education—how it empowered individuals from all socioeconomic backgrounds, including those from “at risk” or “high risk “ communities, to take charge of their health and their families’ well-being—was incredibly motivating. Women, in particular, exemplified this empowerment in such inspiring ways.
Although I had dreams of one day opening my own practice, it wasn’t a priority at the time. Growing up in Jamaica, I developed an early appreciation for the healing power of plants and alternative medicine. This background naturally inclined me toward an integrative approach when I became an NP. My first job was with a GYN practice that specialized in integrative and functional medicine, which was an ideal fit. However after 3 years, the long commute led me to a practice closer to home, owned by an acupuncturist. This role further deepened my knowledge and passion for integrative care.
The dream of opening my own practice stayed with me, but with small children at home, the timing never seemed right. Then, life took an unexpected turn. The acupuncturist’s practice was sold to a company, and the new owners closed the office with only one week’s notice. I was stunned – things like this don’t happen to nurses or NPs! – I thought. Shortly after, I found another position in primary care, but that office closed within three months. Two office closures in six months felt like a clear sign: it was time to take the leap and open my own practice.
With overwhelming support from colleagues, friends, and family, I launched Your Will Wellness in 2018. I started small, working part-time while maintaining a night RN job, and renting a single room in an established medical office. Over the years, the practice has grown tremendously.
Today, I have two full-time treatment rooms and plan to move into a space twice the size in January 2025. I’m also proud to have a dedicated team of 3 members who share and support my vision. My team is so special and passionate about our vision that they all volunteered their time to help build the practice prior to becoming team members.
Initially, I focused on providing integrative medicine and aesthetic services for women, but many clients wanted me to see their husbands and adult children as well. This inspired me to return to school and earn a second certification in Family Health. Now, I’m privileged to care for entire families, offering holistic and personalized care for all stages of life.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest obstacles I faced was having two offices close unexpectedly within six months, leaving me without a job. I had to prioritize providing for my family, so I took a position as an RN at a hospital—even though I was overqualified as a nurse practitioner. While working nights as an RN, I began building my own business part-time.
During this time, I also helped others grow their practices while simultaneously working to establish mine. This dual role taught me invaluable lessons, but it wasn’t easy. Nurses receive little to no formal business education, so balancing the responsibilities of being both a clinician and a business owner was a significant challenge. However, it pushed me to grow in ways I never anticipated, and I’m proud of what I’ve built despite those early hurdles.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Your Will Wellness?
I’m an MSN, APRN-BC, double board certified in Women’s Health and Family Health. I am the founder of Your Will Wellness. As a nurse practitioner, I’m passionate about helping the body tap into its natural ability to heal itself. My focus is on integrative health, where I combine traditional and complementary medicine to offer personalized care that addresses the whole person.
I specialize in women’s health, focusing on helping both women and men navigate hormonal changes that occur in life, while providing adult primary care, and offering aesthetics services. The aim is to help my patients feel their best both inside and out.
Unfortunately, by the time many patients find our office, they have gone to at least 3-4 conventional clinicians that are quick to dismiss their symptoms as “just getting older“, and that it just comes with age. Patients are extremely frustrated, and they are relieved and excited to play a role in improving their longevity and quality of life by establishing with our office. They are more than willing to be partners in their own care.
In aesthetics, my goal is to achieve facial balance using treatments like neuromodulators, dermal fillers, and PDO threads. I’m known for my skill and gentle touch, especially when it comes to the precise placement of PDO threads. I also offer skin-conditioning treatments such as microneedling, micro-channeling, and the use of the Neogen PSR to enhance natural beauty, reducing the need for excess cosmetics.
At the heart of my practice is truly listening to my patients. I believe in educating them about their health and empowering them to take responsibility for their well-being. I take a holistic approach that considers the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects of health, ensuring that I help enhance both the quality of life and overall wellness. At Your Will Wellness, we partner together to support your health goals and promote a truly balanced life.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone starting out is to surround yourself with a strong support network—and don’t be afraid to do it scared! Fear is natural, but it shouldn’t stop you from pursuing your goals.
Focus on your own path and purpose, rather than getting distracted by what others in your industry are doing. Stay true to what you feel called to do—the thing you would gladly do for free—and build your business slowly and intentionally. Cultivate strong relationships with vendors and others in your field, and remember, it’s not always about competition. There’s enough success to go around, so focus on making your approach and how you treat your clients truly unique.
Above all, practice what you preach. Be transparent with your clients and staff, and don’t shy away from showing your vulnerabilities or accepting feedback. Authenticity and genuine care resonate deeply with people and will set you apart.
