Community Highlights: Meet Tonisha Scott of Your Hair Is So Pretty Salon & CODE 1.21

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonisha Scott.

Hi Tonisha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Tonisha and I was born and raised in Orlando, FL! I am the owner of ‘Your Hair Is So Pretty Luxury Salon’ as well as my newly launched clothing line CODE 1.21! As a child, I was very active in sports including track & field, weightlifting, soccer, tennis, and basketball. I am the youngest of four daughters and have a very close relationship with my family. As a kid I always loved assembling electronics and mathematics, assuming I would work in those career fields. As I graduated high school, I attended Tallahassee Community College for their Criminal Justice program and upon starting my last semester I made a decision to quit and attend cosmetology. Following, I attended Aveda Institute and graduated with my cosmetology license. Since then, I have been self-employed in the cosmetology industry, opening and expanding a successful salon/cosmetic business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every day is a learning experience and it always places you at a place of gratitude. I was raised with entrepreneurial examples via my parents. I watched the wins, losses, highs, and lows. The only thing that really stuck with me was my parent’s ability to never give up and never consider anything as a “loss”. Therefore, I don’t expect the road in anything that I do to be easy, but as long as I believe in myself and remain grateful for the ability to bet on myself it reminds me that regardless it will always be worth it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I created my salon ‘Your Hair is So Pretty’ as a safe space for women to gradually rebuild and fall back in love with their hair. As a caregiver to all textures and hair types, I’ve focused more on women of color due to a lack of education in haircare in our upbringings. Many products and tools were not designed to cater to our unique hair type so over time I’ve mastered my craft in educating myself on what works for people like me. I’m extremely proud of my brand as a whole. I pride myself on having great character and therefore I set the bar high for myself in making sure my clients have an amazing experience every visit.

CODE 1.21 is my clothing brand created surrounding the angel number 121 which is also my birthday. I wanted to create something that was a reflection of my style, my perseverance, and my integrity.

What matters most to you?
I matter the most to me. If I am not well, I cannot give to the people I love. Everything starts within yourself. What makes you happy, your mental health, your accomplishments, that is only well if you are well. Therefore, I start and finish with what fulfills me.
