Community Highlights: Meet Valerie Genao of The Alchemist Bake Shop

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Genao.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started 18 years ago. I was born and raised in Paterson, NJ. I always had a love for baking at an early age. I started to do cakes for family members and then it started to grow into friends and then customers. I never went to pastry school. I was self-taught. Many hours invested in YouTube tutorials and google. After many years of baking in NJ. I decided to move to Orlando Florida in 2016. Since then, I have created many cakes for family, friends, and customers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Because I was a self-taught baker, there were a lot of obstacles and cake techniques to learn. Moving to Orlando and starting over was a new whole learning experience due to understand and working with climate and humidity. Fondant is not a humidity lover.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an at-home baker for The Alchemist Bake Shop in Orlando, FL. I specialize in custom cakes, specialty cupcakes, and treats such as sugar cookies, cake pops, chocolate-covered Oreos, chocolate-covered strawberries, rice crispy treats, pretzel rods, cakesicles, and French macarons. I offer many cake flavors and fillings as well as gluten-free and vegan options. I cater to Weddings, Anniversaries, birthdays, and corporate events. I’m known for my famous Tres Leches cake and fun 3D cakes as well. I also donate cakes to Icing Smiles. A non-profit organization that donates birthday cakes monthly to families impacted by the critical illness of a child. What sets me apart from others is that I’m a great communicator with all my clients and collaborate on their ideas/vision of their cakes. I strive to create an individual experience for each customer. There are seasonal trends that come along [geo cakes] I avoid making cakes look identical (unless requested). I want to create personal experiences with the cakes that I make

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am a brand-new mommy to a beautiful baby girl named Kaylee Rogue.
