Hi Yaryangelis. We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today. Can you start by introducing yourself?
Hello, My name is Yaryangelis. I’m a 24 y/o licensed nail technician based in central Florida. I never thought I would be as intrigued by the nail industry as I am today. In 2020, I took a small lash course to get my feet wet in the beauty industry. After 3 months of practicing, I realized I didn’t enjoy lashing. Regardless, I knew I was in the right ballpark with cosmetology. I didn’t know exactly what it was! My older sister @_nailedbyines is also a nail technician, and at first, I didn’t want to pursue her same path, but I ended up loving her work. When she hosted a class I assisted her with, one of her students missed the class, so she told me to take her spot. After the course, I loved treating anyone’s hands as my canvas! Mind you; I’m still working my regular 9-5 as a part-time nail tech. As time passed, I started to build my clientele working before, after, and even on my off days right from home! Around July 2021, I took the leap of faith and became a full-time licensed nail tech. Some days were better than others. Working in an environment where I could see my things didn’t seem professional, so I rented a small room attached to a home. Everything was good until it wasn’t as convenient anymore. Three months later, I ended up working in my room but this time removing all my things, including my bedroom set. It took a huge toll on me, but I knew something better awaited me in the long run. Surely enough, my sister approached me about opening a shop downtown Kissimmee. We did everything to ensure it happened and officially opened our shop in August 2022. Opulent Beauty Co. has by far been the best decision we have ever made!
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Building clientele was by far the most challenging thing to do. If I could advise anyone, it would be to always believe in yourself! Nobody will get you where you want to be. Once you promote your work (a part of believing in yourself) and then get people to trust you in the process, you’ll take off! True supporters love to see your journey and growth. My clients are the reason I am where I am today!
As you know, we’re big fans of @lavishedbyyary. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I named my business Lavished by Yary because the sound of “lavish” gives me such a sweet, positive feeling. My close friends call me Yary (short for Yaryangelis), so that stuck. The word “lavish” reminds me of quality, which is how I view my work. My specialties include acrylics, nail art (my favorite), press-on, and manicures. Eventually, I would love to expand my services in the beauty industry. Something that would set me apart from others would have to be my nail art. Most clients allow me to freestyle on their nails, trusting my craft. Brand-wise, I am proud of the woman the journey allowed me to become. To hear my clients express themselves to me after a long week, or whatever the case may be, gives me a warm feeling. My clients trust me, and I will be forever grateful. I am promoting new press on sets for my weightless nail fans!
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Risk-taking, you have to take risks to know how much you can handle. To know if you can work towards your dreams, you need a risk. Doing what you set your mind to opens doors that already have your name written on them! For instance, I took a big risk when I quit my job randomly and decided to take clients instead. I was taking risks whenever I didn’t have a client booked for the day on my schedule. Letting myself get down wasn’t going to get me anywhere. I knew what I had to do to advertise myself and push myself to get booked up and get to where I wanted to be. Two years later, I would do it all over again.
