Today we’d like to introduce you to Kecia Williams.
Hi Kecia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Matters Of the Eyes is derived from me having a severe case of Glaucoma and Cornea Adema. These eye diseases can cause blindness, in which Cornea Adema has caused my Cornea to change to the color blue; and has caused blindness in my right eye. My focus is to bring awareness to these two eye diseases that is prominent in African Americans and the Latino cultures. There is a wealth of information that needs to be shared to prevent or bring early awareness to these diseases to prevent early blindness.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road because Glaucoma has its ups and downs. Glaucoma causes eye pressures to increase if not medicated, which can cause optic nerve damage. Optic nerve damage can sometimes cause permanent vision lost. I recently had two Cornea transplants and one transplant failed due to high pressures cause by glaucoma. I developed Cornea Adema disease by having an aggressive laser surgery to lower my eye pressure. The aggressive laser surgery caused me to have Uveitis which caused me to develop Cornea Adema disease. The challenge is getting both eyes issues to agree with each other and become stable.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for my creative decoration skills. My husband is a Real Estate Broker with One The Move Realty; and I assist him in rehabbing and staging homes. I have purchased, renovated, and lived in over 30 homes in Duval County. I have a Youtube page called Designs by Kecia Dionne showing a 4000 sq ft home we purchased, remodeled and now live in. I custom designed the staircase, theater room, and glam closets in the home. The homes has an upscale contemporary and traditional flair with 20 feet ceilings in the foyer. Not to mention the fabulous decor throughout the home.
What makes you happy?
Since I have not been able to decorate, spending time with my family and friends is a vitally important. My grandkids are my world. They keep me on my toes and I love dressing the girls up. I’m happy most when I’m with family eating seafood and out shopping. Church also brings me a since faith and hope.
