Conversations with Lindsey Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Thompson.

Hi Lindsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I spent most of my early career working in various roles in corporate environments that varied, from financial institutions, commercial real estate, fashion, and then hospitality. It served me well to see how so many different types of businesses ran because when I got more integral roles, I knew how everything fit together as a whole. It wasn’t until I gained the first fundamental marketing role that I felt I had found an area of work that I enjoyed, not just the fun trips on photo shoots or fashion shows, but even the gritty, more mundane tasks that often no one dare tries to glamorize. Supporting companies with stores all over the country and an e-commerce component provided such an invaluable experience.

From fashion, I went into hospitality and having worked the front-of-house in restaurants, and I fell in love with how the back end of operations ran, again seeing the whole picture. That marketing role grew, and I found myself getting experiences and knowledge no college course could have ever taught me. While working those jobs, I started my local blog as a creative outlet and as a way to showcase the changes I had started seeing in Orlando’s local scene. Eventually, that led me to work for myself and take all of that experience in different areas and focus on helping small businesses that don’t have the budgets that large corporate entities have.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Orlando is a small city, and when you’ve worked and built relationships, those come in handy when you are trying to establish yourself. However, what is a far more tremendous asset when building something is being a good human and doing things for people solely out of an altruistic duty to serve. While sometimes that means you will get taken advantage of and learn some hard lessons, it will always come back to you in a positive manner at some point. You don’t have to be kind and helpful only when it benefits you. I honestly attribute genuine relationship-building and kindness to helping me succeed on my own terms.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Having a local lifestyle blog has helped me stay in tune with how Orlando has been evolving and changing over the past ten years. Supporting and spotlighting small businesses and amplifying them not for profit has organically benefited me. Being a storyteller and sharing things out of the authentic enjoyment they give me as a resident is infectious. Seeing more people want to explore their backyard and support local over large chains makes me very happy. Being immersed in that type of content creation, which is also a highly effective form of marketing, means continuing my education constantly, as the digital landscape changes what feels like daily.

It also means anyone that does this is expected to have the talents of an entire team all on their own. You are a photographer, videographer, copywriter, editor, strategist, content creator, and so much more. Having a strong corporate background has enabled me to set myself apart and have the ability to use my creative skills but keep things grounded in the reality of what small businesses need to function daily while keeping an eye on the bottom line. Seeing the whole picture is imperative and allows me to work on the creative side while being fully in tune with the less glamorous sides of someone’s business where they may need help.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to support anyone in Orlando is to be a good human and do their part to make a better city.
