Today we’d like to introduce you to 2AMature
Hi 2AMature, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
2AMature was founded by Geomar Berube and Julio Andrade. While the name initially came from a playful twist on words—one of them joked, “We’re just two amateurs”—it was meant to convey that they are “too amateur,” emphasizing their commitment to modesty even if they become famous. They also wanted a name that could be easily chanted by their fans: “2 A M! 2 A M!”
Humor plays a big role in their approach, helping to ease the awkwardness of performing on stage. When Yanmark Berube, their drummer, joined the band, he didn’t know how to play drums. There’s nothing more punk rock than learning your instrument on stage! They received a drum set for Christmas, which is the same one they use for practice and performances whenever possible.
After a year of playing and writing music together, they released their first EP, “Life Guarding Elephant,” accompanied by a music video. This was a pivotal moment for them, as it marked the beginning of putting their energy and creativity out into the world.
Following the release, they experienced some lineup changes. They parted ways with their bassist and brought in Micah Elmer, who initially played bass but turned out to be an exceptional guitarist. Micah then introduced them to his friend Brian Alvarez.
They instantly connected with Micah and Brian, feeling like they had finally found a true band of brothers. Where there was once tension and thoughts of giving up, they now had four people who genuinely enjoyed each other’s company.
Being with people they truly enjoy is a blessing, and that’s what 2AMature embodies: the importance of holding on to good people and nurturing the friendships and relationships they value. During their shows, if they can alleviate someone’s pain, even for a moment, it makes everything worthwhile.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has not been smooth for us. With two brothers in the band—my brother Geomar and me—bickering and arguing pop up frequently. However, we love each other and usually move past it, maintaining a good relationship as far as brothers go.
We have also experienced some lineup changes. There were arguments with our former member Julio Andrade, whom we are grateful for, but it became clear that it was better to part ways. Despite this, we remain friends with him. We also had another bassist, Colin Nazario, for a short time. Although Colin is a talented musician, he didn’t fit with 2AMature’s goals, leading to another separation.
Currently, our struggles revolve around being particular about how we want our songs to sound and managing the many show offers we receive, having to choose the ones that benefit us the most. These are good struggles to have. There is much less infighting now, and I can safely say that we all love each other like the brothers we are.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We pride our selves on our emotion and energy. We like to see people jump around and mosh. We feel that energy and it makes our performance better. We also just like to know that we are helping people forget about the pain they feel daily.
We’ve had some crazy shows at the 407 House and it was really through them that we realized house shows are where we thrive. Geo loves to crowd surf while playing his guitar and run through the crowds. We really love the chaos.
And most of all we’re just here to have fun. We want people to feel that. Some of our songs are sad lyrically but we want to put the fun factor into our songs so people feel that excitement and energy.
What sets us apart though is our theming. We all wear costumes to try and give a Dungeons and Dragons vibe. We’d like to say we are putting people on a quest when they see us. We’re even developing some lore that everyone should watch out for. I also think our sound stands apart. It’s hardcore, alternative, surfy, and in your face all at the same time.
We really love what we do and we’re excited to show everyone the new stuff we’re working on.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Geo and I grew up together and we both agree our favorite childhood memory is riding our bikes in our old apartment complex we used to live in.
Micah says his favorite memory is “Playing in bands to escape a chaotic home”
Brian says “I would say one of my fav childhood memories would be of the time me, Carlos, Chewy and my ma went to see the Incredible Hulk in 2011. First movie we ever went to see together in theaters”
