Today we’d like to introduce you to Aiyanna Hayes
Hi Aiyanna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a little girl, I was always surrounded by the world of hairstyling, thanks to my mom, who is a hairstylist. I spent countless hours in the salon, watching her work her magic and admiring the transformations she created. I even remember practicing different styles on my dolls, however, as I got older, I never saw myself following in my mom’s footsteps. I was surrounded by it all the time, and I wanted to explore something different for myself. Little did I know, God had a different plan for me.
In 2019, when I was a sophomore in high school, I found myself drawn back to hairstyling in a way I hadn’t expected. One day, I asked an old friend if I could practice a style on their hair. That was the moment everything changed. I started with simple rope twists, and before I knew it, my passion for hairstyling began to grow. I found myself focusing more on learning new techniques and perfecting my craft. Over time, I became particularly drawn to faux locs, which eventually became my specialty.
That’s how my journey as a hairstylist began, and it all led to the creation of my business, ‘YannaLocdit.’ What started as a simple desire to practice on a friend’s hair turned into a full-blown passion, and now I’m here, doing what I love every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t always been easy, especially as a perfectionist working to perfect my craft. Striving for perfection can be challenging at times, but I’ve learned to embrace every trial and error along the way. Each experience has helped me grow and develop into the person I am today, and I’m grateful for the lessons they’ve taught me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m often considered a braider by some, but to most, I’m a hairstylist. I specialize in soft locs and am known for creating seamless, flat soft locs with a subtle distressed look that gives them a natural, effortless vibe. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and the unique style I bring to each set of locs. I take pride in perfecting the look to make it as realistic and flawless as possible. The best part is seeing my clients’ reactions when they see their finished styles—they always leave feeling more confident and beautiful. Being able to contribute to their confidence is something I truly cherish and take pride in.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice for those just starting out is to embrace every trial and error as a valuable learning experience. Don’t be discouraged by mistakes—they’re all part of the process. Also, always have faith and trust in God; with that mindset, everything will flow as it’s meant to. Stay patient and persistent, and you’ll see growth in both your craft and confidence.
