Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Delacroix.
Hi Alexandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
You know that look parents give you when you tell them you want to do nails for a living? Yeah, I got that look in Belarus back in 2010.
My parents weren’t trying to crush my dreams – they were just being practical. Beauty industry in Belarus at that time? Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly paying the bills. So I did what any good daughter would do: went to study criminal justice while sneaking beauty classes on the side like some kind of educational double agent.
My friends became my guinea pigs. Family gatherings became my runway shows. I was that girl who’d show up with a makeup bag instead of wine.
Then life threw me a curveball – or maybe an opportunity disguised as chaos. I migrated to the USA. Suddenly, I’m working three jobs just to keep my head above water, thinking “Is this it? Is this the American Dream everyone keeps talking about?”
That’s when it hit me: I had a clean slate. A chance to actually do what I loved instead of what made sense on paper.
Here’s the thing nobody tells you about self-care – it’s not supposed to be this complicated luxury thing. It’s not spa days with cucumber water and whale sounds (though no judgment if that’s your vibe).
When I opened Studio Delacroix, I had one mission: make natural beauty enhancement as normal as brushing your teeth. Because honestly, why should a lash lift feel like you’re treating yourself to a yacht? Why should waxing be this guilty pleasure you whisper about?
It shouldn’t be.
Self-care is maintenance, not indulgence. It’s like going to the dentist, except way more fun and you actually look forward to it.
I wanted women to walk into my studio and think “Finally, someone gets it.” Someone who understands that taking care of yourself isn’t selfish – it’s essential. That enhancing what you’ve already got isn’t about vanity – it’s about feeling like the best version of you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Here’s what nobody tells you about being self-employed as an immigrant in a foreign country: it’s not all “money flowing day and night” and “living your best life” captions.
It’s you, figuring out business licenses in your second language. It’s cultural differences you didn’t even know existed. It’s three jobs turning into one business that might not make it. It’s questioning every single decision while pretending you’ve got it all figured out.
And just when you start seeing the first real crops of your hard labor – you know, that moment when you think “Holy shit, this might actually work” – Covid happens.
Lockdown. Doors closed. Dreams suspended. The whole country shuts down and you’re sitting there wondering if you even have a business anymore or just an expensive empty room.
But here’s where the story flips.
My clients – these incredible women who trusted me not just with their brows and lashes, but with their self-care routines – they didn’t forget. The moment we could reopen, they came back. Not just came back – they brought their sisters, friends, coworkers. They made it their personal mission to keep their local business alive.
That’s when I really understood what Studio Delacroix was about. It wasn’t just me teaching women that everyone deserves self-care. It was them showing me what community means. What loyalty looks like. What it means to have people believe in you even when the world is falling apart.
My parents? They finally get it now. Turns out loving what you do AND filling up your table aren’t mutually exclusive after all. Even when a global pandemic tries to prove otherwise.
Who knew?
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Studio Delacroix isn’t your typical “pop in, get pretty, pop out” kind of place.
I specialize in three things: waxing, lash and brow lamination, and Russian manicures. But here’s my non-negotiable rule: beauty should never cost you your health. Ever.
When I was opening the business, I had one simple test for every single product: “Would I use this on myself?” If the answer was no, it didn’t make it through the door. Premium materials only. Not because I’m trying to be fancy – because your skin, your lashes, your health actually matter.
Every service I offer to clients? I do it on myself first. Call it quality control. Call it paranoia. I call it giving a damn.
But here’s what really makes Studio Delacroix different – it’s not just about the service. It’s about the space.
When you walk in, you’re entering a judge-free zone. Clean, cozy, and yours for that hour. Want to talk? Let’s talk. Need to cry? Hand you the tissues. Want to laugh about that disaster date? I’m here for it.
I’m not just your beauty technician – I’m the person who celebrates your wins with you, mourns your losses, and walks through life’s stages alongside you. Over 10+ years, I’ve seen clients through engagements, breakups, babies, job changes, and everything in between.
What you’re guaranteed at Studio Delacroix:
• Quality service with hypoallergenic, safe materials
• Over 10 years of experience (including all my mistakes, so you don’t have to worry about being someone’s practice round)
• A space where you can just… be
• Someone who actually cares whether you leave feeling better than when you walked in
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about perfect brows or flawless nails. It’s about that moment when you look in the mirror and think “Yeah, that’s me. And I look good.”
What are your plans for the future?
You know what’s funny? I survived Covid, rebuilt my business, proved my parents wrong – and now I can’t sit still.
I’m expanding. Because apparently, almost losing everything once wasn’t enough excitement for one lifetime.
But seriously – I’ve started training other artists in lash and brow lamination. Teaching them not just the technique, but the philosophy: that this isn’t about making people look “fancy.” It’s about helping them feel like themselves, only better. It’s about making self-care accessible, not aspirational.
There’s something full-circle about it. I started as that girl taking secret beauty classes while my parents hoped I’d “get serious” about my career. Now I’m the one teaching, passing on not just skills but a whole different way of thinking about beauty services.
The goal? More locations. More artists who get it. More women who walk in feeling like self-care is a luxury and walk out realizing it’s just… life.
And honestly? I’m just getting started.
