Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis And Noraida Montero.
Alexis and Noraida, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Our story begins in Venezuela in 2006. After going through a very difficult time in our marriage that almost led to divorce, we attended a marriage course where we received many tools that helped us restore our relationship, thanks to the power of God. After receiving these tools and sharing our testimony, we were invited to be trained and equipped as a couple to begin facilitating the course for other couples in crisis.
After completing our training, we started teaching the course, and over time, we became leaders in the ministry. We began training and equipping many other couples and eventually became part of the national leadership team in Venezuela.
In 2015, we moved to the United States, and our passion for helping marriages and families remained strong. We quickly adapted to the culture of this country and, with a new perspective, we were able to see the many challenges families face daily. We realized there was a great need for the tools we had, and we wanted to help by sharing them. We reached out to the ministry in Denver, Colorado, and completed a certification course to align with the ministry’s approach here in the U.S., allowing us to begin serving the community right away.
Since then—and taking into account the experience we’ve gained since the beginning—we have been serving in this ministry voluntarily for 19 years, helping hundreds of couples in various situations. These have included marriages in critical condition like ours once was, others feeling stuck and needing to improve their relationship, and even healthy marriages simply looking to grow stronger.
Today, we are part of the North American leadership team. We have gone through many different experiences and witnessed entire families be transformed. We’ve also had the opportunity to train many couples who are now teaching the marriage course, parenting course, and premarital course in different countries.
Over the years, not only have we been able to help other couples, but our marriage has grown stronger. Though we’re not a perfect couple—there’s still plenty to improve—we are modeling a process that God has been working on in us. Today, we are better than we were yesterday, and with God’s help, we believe we’ll be better tomorrow than we are today.
Today, we want to continue helping many families, freely giving what we have freely received.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been an easy journey. Like everything that holds great value, it has required a lot of effort and dedication. Especially since this is volunteer work, it must be done alongside our regular jobs, which we rely on to meet our daily needs. That’s why it has always demanded an extra level of commitment—long nights of preparation and study to ensure each course is delivered with excellence.
When we organize conventions and special events, it takes time, effort, and talent. But most importantly, God has been by our side, providing all the resources we need.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are an ordinary couple who have discovered the power of God’s marriage covenant. Our goal is to share the message of God’s unity and the power of that covenant with the Church and the community. We have uncovered the treasures of God’s plan for marriage and family, and we are eager to help others discover them too.
Through our open and honest sharing of our journey, we model God’s unfolding plan as He continues to work in our lives.
The tools we share are offered through three different courses:
– Marriage for Life (MFL):
Helps couples discover God’s plan for marriage and how to maximize their life together. We not only teach principles that make a marriage last, but also transparently model from our own lives the process of God working with us.
Couples who complete Married for Life have a clearer understanding of God’s plan and purpose for their marriage and are equipped to step out and fulfill that purpose. Marriage was not given for our own fulfillment only, but so that we might discover the power of God to be a strong team together.
– Parents for Life (PFL):
Helps couples discover God’s plan for husband and wife to work together, nurturing and developing the children He sends to them. We, who are parents ourselves, help couples learn to walk in the power of parenting God’s way.
This course not only brings healing and growth to children, but also helps parents walk through their own healing and growth from wounds of their childhoods, and to know how to seek forgiveness for shortcomings and be released from wrong patterns or guilt. Parents for Life brings healing to the generations through God’s power working in the relationship of husband and wife.
– One for Life (OFL):
This is a premarital course designed for first-time marriages.
One for Life begins by focusing on individual healing and growth. Marriage should begin on a solid foundation of personal wholeness. The course then takes you on a journey of discovery and preparation for the most important relationship of your life—marriage.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Whenever you dream big, you have to be willing to take risks. A famous quote says, “There is no victory without sacrifice,” and everything worthwhile in life requires taking risks.
In our case, as we mentioned before, we took the risk of dedicating a significant amount of time to this volunteer work, sacrificing hours we could have spent working and earning money. The risk involved is whether the people we help will truly value and make the most of the time we’re giving them.
In the end, the risk is worth it—when we see transformed and joyful families, we look at each other and say, “It was worth it—that’s our reward.”
