Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Westmoreland and Bri Schamberg.
Hi Amy and Bri, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Bri and I live four houses away from each other. And one day, while outside at a mutual friend’s house, we started talking and instantly became friends. We started talking about TV shows we both enjoy, which quickly turned into supernatural and actual crime conversations. We spent hours sharing personal experiences or stories we know about true crime and paranormal and everything in between. We decided, why not start a podcast? We are talking about it anyways.
So in September 2021, we got a few mics together and recorded our first episode. When I say we had no idea what we were doing, that is an understatement. We still needed to learn what we were doing. We just celebrated our first year, and we have hit so many bumps in the road and lots of tears out of frustration because of technology. But we work so well together; every moment, good or bad, is enjoyable. We have grown steadily, and just recently, we had the opportunity to sit down with Brett Johnson, the godfather of cybercrime. We also have the author of Sleepless in Salcha lined up to tell us her personal experience with the paranormal. We are proud of where we are and owe it all to our loyal listeners.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I (Amy) am just not mentally available to get work done, Bri will step up, or when Bri is busy with her personal life, I can step up and fill in the gaps. We equally carry the weight of the podcast, but just like every relationship, there are times when it is not 50/50. Some days it is 20/80 and whatnot. And we have shed so many tears over technology; that is the biggest issue. We are not professionals when it comes to media. So it’s been a big learning curve. Every recording is a hit or miss if it will work. It is one of those things. You plug it all in and cross your fingers that it works.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What’s With the Neighbors? We are a true crime and paranormal podcast with a hint of neighborhood drama. Each week we get together and share a true-crime, paranormal story, and everything in between. You never know what is going on behind your neighbor’s door. We are a comedy podcast. We banter when appropriate and respect the victims involved in our stories. We also advocate for children of sexual violence and occasionally speak on it.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
Give yourself some grace. You will likely miss the first, second, or even the 10th try. And that is okay. Be kind to yourself and celebrate the small victories, even if that is finishing a deadline early.
