Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Dushek and Kateryna Buhai.
Hi Anna and Kateryna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We’re Anna and Kateryna. We moved from Ukraine to the United States in 2022, and at that time, we didn’t know each other yet. Like many people starting over in a new country, we each began building our floral path independently — learning a new market, new clients, and how to work within a different culture.
We met later in Orlando through work. There was no big plan in the beginning. It started with a few small collaborations — flowers for a local grand opening, then workshops for the Orlando community. Through these projects, it quickly became clear that our floral style was very similar and that we shared the same values.
We’re both drawn to natural, European-style floral design and to working with flowers that aren’t commonly used here. One of our favorites is the garden rose — a flower you don’t often see locally, but one that has a strong presence and a very distinct look. Introducing our clients to flowers like these is an important part of what we do.
As we continued working together, we started to notice how much stronger we were as a team. We complement each other, move faster together, and push each other to grow. What began as a collaboration slowly turned into a shared vision, and it became clear that building something together made more sense than working separately.
That’s how Whisper Blooms was born.
Today, Whisper Blooms is our shared studio — a place where we bring our experience, taste, and perspective into every arrangement, and where flowers help express what words sometimes can’t.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course, it hasn’t been an easy road — like any startup, there have been challenges from the very beginning. We do everything ourselves, just the two of us, so every decision, every risk, and every responsibility is on us.
One of the biggest steps was moving into our own space this summer. It’s not a storefront, just a small studio — but it’s ours. With that came a lot of fear: Would we be able to cover the rent? Would the orders keep coming? Those questions don’t really go away when you’re building something on your own.
Another ongoing challenge is introducing clients to a different approach to floral design. Many people are used to very classic choices, and sometimes they’re not ready to look beyond them — for example, they may only want traditional red roses. We fully respect that. Our goal isn’t to change what people love, but to gently show another way of presenting it — through different flowers, textures, or a more thoughtful design and presentation.
In many ways, these challenges are also what keep us moving forward. They push us to stay flexible, creative, and very attentive to our clients, while continuing to grow at our own pace.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are Whisper Blooms, and we like to think of ourselves as creators rather than just florists. What we do goes beyond arranging flowers—we craft personalized floral experiences that tell a story. Many people come to us not knowing exactly what bouquet they want, but wanting something that reflects a person’s character or mood: maybe delicate and soft for someone who loves pink, or bold and unconventional for someone with a more adventurous spirit. That’s what we specialize in—turning emotions, personalities, and stories into flowers.
We are most proud of the way we make each arrangement unique. Even our Flower Subscription is built around this idea: every vase we deliver comes with a story, a little narrative that captures the emotions, history, or energy behind it. For us, flowers aren’t just decoration—they’re a language, a way to convey feelings that sometimes words can’t.
What sets us apart is this focus on personalization and storytelling. Our work isn’t about following trends or creating the prettiest arrangement—it’s about creating something that feels alive, meaningful, and intimately connected to the person receiving it. That philosophy is reflected in our name, Whisper Blooms, and our tagline, “Let Flowers Tell Your Story.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We actually believe a lot in karma, and we’ve seen it play out in our lives and business countless times. If we think about “good luck,” for us, it was first and foremost meeting each other and realizing how well our personalities and visions aligned – that was pure serendipity. But we don’t really believe in “bad luck.” We see challenges more as the natural consequences of past decisions and actions.
At the same time, we’ve noticed that whenever we create something with intention – whether it’s a bouquet as a gift or something meant to bring joy—we often see that generosity returned in ways we couldn’t have predicted. For example, at pop-up markets, we might give a child a single rose. Maybe the market itself isn’t going that well, but those small gestures often lead to unexpected connections and sales.
We’ve come to really trust that the more you give and put good energy into the world, the more comes back to you. And of course, this works both ways, so we’re intentional about not creating negative energy or doing anything we wouldn’t want returned. It’s become a guiding principle for both our business and how we live our lives.
