Conversations with Benjamin Meehan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Meehan.

Hi Benjamin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Florida, so theme park trips were somewhat frequent growing up. The older I got, the more interested in the parks I became. I took plenty of solo trips to theme parks when none of my friends wanted to or could come with me.

I started taking pictures while inside the parks and decided to start some social media accounts sharing my adventures. After a little over a year, I decided to start making videos of my trips and favorite attractions to post on YouTube. That’s when the brand really started to take off.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Luckily, I really enjoy what I do because, for the first couple of years, I didn’t make a dime. I had to pay for all of my trips, food, overnight stays all out-of-pocket. I had to take plenty of days off of work unpaid to attend opening day attractions, check out new events, and pay admission for all of them.

Making up lost time and money by working odd jobs and overtime hours was all worth it because the fan following we’ve received along the way has been super supportive and has helped the brand get to where it is today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started off just taking pictures from my phone and quickly fell in love with the ins and outs of photography. I definitely felt lost and far behind the competition, so I took every chance I got to improve my skills and creativity.

Videography was another hurdle to jump, but I was willing to try because I just had so many ideas and no one was going to do it for me. I had a vision of what I wanted, so I took the time to learn the tricks of the trade to produce the content I always wanted to achieve.

Many opportunities in this niche can pass you by if you simply weren’t “ready” or prepared for a shot, so having to adapt and learn on the fly is crucial. I’m also a perfectionist, so producing the best possible content is very important to me. Quality is where I feel I get my brand to really stand out.

There are quite a few great people producing content of the same events as I am, so being the first one to post is pretty important, but I never let quality take a back seat. I will always only post content I am proud of posting.

How do you define success?
For me, success is being able to have the freedom to produce what your passion is. Utilize the tools you have to build your dream. Sacrifice, work hard and keep your eyes on the prize. The journey and pursuit is your success. One day you’ll wake up and realize that you’ve surpassed your “dream” and continue to build to it. That’s success.
