Today we’d like to introduce you to Bjorn Backman.
Hi Bjorn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in a small rural town on the countryside in the middle of Norway. I was a high school dropout going nowhere, to my mom’s big frustration. Stuck in a dead-end town, I eventually came across a poster on which they were looking for cultural representatives to work for the Norway pavilion at Disney World in the USA. I applied. Now – almost nine years and three degrees later, I am still here pursuing the dream of acting, which if you told me ten years ago I would be doing, I would laugh and say it’d be more likely to snow in hell. I overcame tons of obstacles to dear pursue the dream of acting/modeling and am finally doing so successfully. I’m about to graduate with my BFA in acting and couldn’t be happier. My whole family is still back home and I haven’t seen them, in years but this is the sacrifice I am willing to make in order to manifest my destiny. The goal is Hollywood and I’m well on my way there!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t. Being diagnosed with both social anxiety and AD/HD at an early age, growing up in the kind of town that most get stuck in and never leave, it’s safe to say the odds were not in my favor. I was a high school dropout and told myself I would never go back to school. I hated it. Yet here I am about to graduate for the 3rd time and I couldn’t be more proud.
The fear of auditioning held me back from pursuing acting for a year. The fear of rejection was crippling. One day, I realized that if I never dared to jump, I’d be forever stuck on that cliff of self-doubt.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a stage/film/commercial actor. The long-term goal is film and tv, yet I am currently working on several stage productions as well, as I believe theater is where you get good as an actor, plus there is nothing that makes an actor feel more alive than being able to perform in front of a live audience.
I am most proud of the challenges I have overcome. The distance I have traveled and the sacrifices I have been willing to make in order to get where I am today.
My constant drive is what sets me apart from the rest. I am willing to do whatever it takes to reach my goals in the world of acting. I will be relentless in my pursuit,
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Social Media is becoming a bigger and bigger part of it as a trend, as far as both discovering new talent and marketing is concerned. Same thing with auditioning. Self-taping has become so easy, much because of natural progression in the industry, but also boosted, partially, and forcefully, because of Covid, making people having to send in stuff from home, and that’s a trend that has come to stay. This provides a bunch of new opportunities for actors, producers and casting directors.
