Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Smith.
Hi Brandi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I never thought I would be a writer.
Which is funny because I journaled almost every day of my life. But that didn’t feel like writing.
I journaled because it was the way I poured my heart out to God. It was how I processed all life’s troubles. Writing in my journal was how I got my thoughts on paper. It seemed to make me feel better.
My counselor told me that journaling is probably what saved me when I was going through trials you shouldn’t have to go through.
It was my lifeline to Jesus and a way I poured my heart out to Him.
It felt surreal when I submitted my first article to be published in a Christian magazine.
Since I was a teenager, I have read various Christian magazines and books and learned so much.
Unknown writers have discipled me in my faith and taught me how to walk with God.
There comes a point when God says now it’s time to pour back into others what you have learned.
During the year 2020 when the world was shut down, I felt God speaking to me about getting my first book published and then writing another one. So, I did. My husband and I have written numerous books together as well.
Trilogy Publishing reached out to me about publishing my Walk by Faith book. My sister had sent me some information and I filled it out and they contacted me. The rest of my books are self-published through KDP. All my books can be found on Amazon or my website www.beboldbebrave.org.
We hear people tell us how much they have helped them.
Now is the time to use YOUR gifting for Christ.
When He returns, I want to hear Him say, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road to becoming an author. It takes a lot of time and discipline to write enough for a book. Then you have to choose which publisher to use or if you want to self-publish. Self-publishing requires learning new skills to format your book. My husband does that part for me. I edit my husband’s books so we both help each other. My sister is also a great editor and she helped us as well. I chose to spend a lot of money on the first publisher. You also need to be able to interpret contracts correctly and discern who to work with. But the struggle is worth it in the end when you hold your book in your hand!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have written numerous books, blogs, and articles over the years. I am working on my second Bible study as well. I also travel and speak and do book signings. My most popular book is called Walk by Faith and contains true and funny stories and trials I have walked through. It’s an easy read as I share about how God turned a drug addict into a preacher and church planter and how I fell in love with him. What sets me apart is that most people don’t do ministry like we did. We didn’t ask for money or have an organization supporting us. We only relied on God and He provided in miraculous ways!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Standing in the softball dugout singing cheers to my teammates while they were at bat. I was one of the pitchers on the team and it was so much fun!
