Conversations with Candace Cole

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Cole.

Hi Candace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am from Polk County, FL -863 baby! I was born and raised in Winter Haven, FL, then migrated a few miles out to Lakeland, FL where I am currently making a career for myself in the makers and market community of Lakeland, FL while also working as a counselor in the same area. In 2018, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and I was inspired to create something that would encourage simple ways to improve self-care and promote mental health awareness. This inspiration evolved into “TheraMe,” which is a little wordplay for, “therapy for me.” Not only do I support mental health awareness, I especially want to appeal to the black community as a Black American woman who supports mental health awareness. In 2019, I became the mother to a lovely spirited and intelligent little person, my daughter, Daci Jordan Morris. I am proud of motherhood and all it’s gains and I can’t wait to see what happens next for my family and my business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, but the support of my friends and family have shaven some of those rough edges. My biggest challenge has been budgeting for inventory and supplies. As a maker, I want to make sure I have the best and most cost-effective supplies to produce amazing scented aromatherapy candles.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern and I currently work as a Substance Use Counselor. My experience with the community of persons with developmental disabilities, persons with Substance Use Disorder, and persons/families in need of crisis supports gives me the competency I need to back the objectives of my business and approach valued customers and potential customers in the most person-centered way possible. We all need everyday products that can improve coping skills and mood regulation. What does success mean to you?
I define success by basing it on the stability of my household family and the additional opportunities I help create for the future of my family and its legacy.
