Today we’d like to introduce you to Carissa Curran.
Hi Carissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am an Assistant Principal in Seminole County, who is an avid reader, coffee and tea drinker, clay earring creator, and plant lover. Over the past year, I turned to trying new coffee shops and tea shops to de-stress and enjoy a new book while there. I also began creating fun earrings that often went with the theme of the book I was reading to relax and be creative.
As I began all of this just for fun and enjoyment, many of my friends kept telling me that I should blog and share the information, as well as sell my earrings. So, with lots of encouragement from others this year I chose to start blogging and creating reviews. I have been focusing on trying new botanical stores, coffee or tea shops, and books.
I am also visiting, many bookstores and author events to meet the authors and share information about them and their new books. My goal is to provide great places to try whether alone or with friends and family. As a single woman I have always hated trying new places alone but this gives me a purpose as well encourages others to do the same.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been easy. It can cost a lot to try new places and it can be expensive on a teacher’s salary; however, I try to budget. It is also hard getting my site out to a lot of people. I am social networking and doing all I can. There are great weeks and then weeks that are slow.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an educator with a passion for presenting professional development, sharing ideas, and coaching teachers on classroom instruction. Thus, I took this passion and turned it into a blog doing the same skill set but with books, brews, and botanicals. My hope that this will soon lead to a mobile book bus and so much more.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is to always be true to your core beliefs and who you are. Not everyone will agree with you, like your choices, or even like you, but don’t let other people stand in your way. Just do what you truly love!
