Today we’d like to introduce you to Carol Anderson.
Hi Carol, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I firmly believe in chasing your dreams and doing what it takes to change your ideas from plans to reality. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, until the age of 35 when in 2001, I made the life-changing decision to move myself and two young sons to Central Florida and marry my long-distance fiancé. Life was good until it wasn’t. In April 2004, I was diagnosed with a 4 cm. brain tumor and underwent the first of 2 surgeries. Six months later, life threw a curve ball again when my husband committed suicide. I was at the lowest time in my life but couldn’t wallow in self-pity and grief. I had two boys to raise, and they needed their Mother. So, together, we took life by the horns, grieved our loss, and created a new life, just the three of us. Tragedy and adversity would not define us. Flash forward to 2007, the “Next Chapter” in my life journey began when I met and married the man of my dreams. We added to our little family the following year and had our third son. I say “our” because my husband, Christian, loves our two oldest boys as if his DNA were running through their veins. Life was again blessed, and I learned I was stronger than I ever believed possible.
It was during this time that the creative juices started flowing. I found interest in creating things to make my home a beautiful and comfortable place. I explored wreath making, and after posting a few photos on social media, I had friends and family asking if I would sell my creations in the future. At the time, I didn’t realize I was starting a business, but what began as one wreath order blossomed into a year-round demand which has allowed me to expand and offer a wide variety of handcrafted items, shirts, blankets, ornaments, signs, and more. If I don’t know how to make something, I will do everything possible to figure it out. I only use quality supplies and believe you get what you pay for, and with that, I can offer a wide variety of products for everyone’s budget. It’s amazing how I went from having a little corner in the guest bedroom for my supplies to an entire room. I even made my ribbon holder. My garage is full of new power tools and has become a workshop. I’ve expanded into woodworking and sublimation and have orders to fill nationwide! Carol’s Creations and Door Décor has sprung to life! My husband came up with my business catch phrase “Where Imagination Brings Creativity to Life.” I could never imagine how much creativity would actually change my life .
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
Finding a balance between my “job” and my business is challenging. Carol’s Creations and Door Decor is my business, but I work full-time as a legal assistant. I often work late into the night, and Saturdays and Sundays are my “full-time” days for my business. It has not always been a smooth road, but it’s rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create custom, one-of-a-kind gifts, home decor, etc. I take the time to get to know my customers and love it when they return for another creation; I like to say that my business has blossomed because of friends and family and customers who have become like friends and family! Utilizing only a Facebook Business Page, I have grown to a business that sells nationwide.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d like to thank my family and my customers for supporting my small business. I wouldn’t be successful without them!
