Conversations with Cathy Olsen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cathy Olsen.

Cathy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So I started blogging at the beginning of February of this year. People have been telling me for years that they loved how I dressed and how I styled myself, especially being a midsize girl. So one day I just decided, why not?! It was a slow process at first, posting once or twice a day with photos my husband Bobby or my best friend Lara would take. I was so nervous and self-conscious because I just didn’t know how everyone would react to me posting about myself. But let me tell you, the amount of support and love that came my way was unbelievable! I think that is what really pushed me to keep going. So many people (friends, family and even strangers) cheering me on and keeping my drive alive! This drove me to not only blog about fashion trends for all sizes but to post about confidence and everyday optimism!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have definitely been some struggles along the way. For starters, creating content is not easy! I know bloggers make creating content to effortless, but let me tell you it is a lot of work! Another struggle I was seeing was who is actually in your corner. There are people in your life who want to see you succeed, and then there are people in your life who only want to see you succeed if they are succeeding too. I think blogging started to open my eyes to those people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In addition to blogging, I am actually a professional musical theatre actress! I currently work at the Lake Worth Playhouse in Lake Worth Beach, FL where I am the Education Director and Community Outreach Coordinator. I have been working in theatre my entire life which I think helps me a lot in my blogging career. I am known for being the silly, fun and colorful one of my coworkers and my friends. So Colorfully Cathy was very fitting!!

I think one of the things I am most proud of is how far my confidence has come. As an actress, I can pretend to be just about anything. But me, Cathy, that’s a different story. It is really scary being authentically you to the world because of the fear of being rejected. And sometimes rejection is the name of the game, ya know? It took me a really long time to be okay with rejection in my theatre career. So I think that really helped me grow and gain confidence as a blogger.

This is a tough one!! I think what sets me apart from others most is my authenticity. What you see is what you get! I am always the same person no matter where you get me: at the theatre, at a blogger event or even just a dinner party with family! There is no “fake” personality that comes out for different things. I am just always me 🙂

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Authenticity! I must sound like a broken record, but truly the most important thing is just being you. That’s what people want to see! When you are authentically you, people can connect to that.
