Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Runner.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved taking pictures. I’d take my family’s phones regularly to do so. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I found my passion for concert photography, more specifically, tour. It has become a huge dream of mine to be a full-time tour photographer. I just did my first-ever tour with Cannibal Kids not too long ago. Beyond that, concert photography, in general, has brought me so much joy in life. The amazing people I’ve been able to meet in the short time I have been doing it always blows my mind. I’ve been a concert photographer for just over a year now. The way I found it is so sentimental to me. I was scrolling on Instagram one day and came across GVF’s photographer, Paige Sara. That was the moment it clicked. I could do this; I want to do this. Ever since that day, I have been working hard to network, learn, and grow in this art form. Music has always been a beautiful thing to me, so having the opportunity to capture the live moments is so special. I’m unbelievably grateful for everyone’s support along the way!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s only sometimes been super smooth. I’ve been lucky regarding the connections I made early in my career! Starting was a challenge, though. When I first started, I did not have anyone to go to with questions about how to shoot shows and such, so I learned a ton from trial and error. Imposter syndrome has also been a huge struggle of mine. Although it is very common, it can be a hard thing to talk about with other photographers just out of fear of being looked down on. It’s been a rocky road, but rewarding!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a live music photographer! I specialize in live gigs, so I’m known for my concert photos and band portraits. I’m proud that I was able to turn the realization of a dream into reality! What sets me apart from others is the intentionality behind everything I do.
What do you think about happiness?
Music brings me so much happiness! It truly connects people and has been why I’ve met some of my best friends. That is a big part of why it’s so special to me to be able to do what I do! On that, my friends make me happy. Being surrounded by them often makes me overwhelmed with love and joy!
