Conversations with Daryl Silva

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daryl Silva

Hi Daryl, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, 20 minutes north of Boston. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a profound passion for acting, film, music & dance. My eccentric exposure to domestic violence, alcohol & drug abuse in various stages of my upbringing contributed greatly to my creativity, pushing my passion for the arts to a deeper place. Took TV production in high school. In the late 80’s/early 90’s I began my career with VHS & 8mm camcorders creating music videos & short films. Traveled to Los Angeles shortly thereafter to pursue film. Had a couple homeless nights on Hollywood Boulevard. Those few nights became a make or break test for me. Worked as a celebrity Santa @ The Beverly Hills mall, pitching actor Paul Rudd my script while he sat on my lap for a pic. Making a great impression, he took our encounter to late night, sharing the story of our hilarious meeting with the world. I took on side security jobs at the Golden Globes & Oscars to make ends meet. Met my wife Lisa, who was a professional Nanny to the stars in LA shortly there after. Had 2 children together, Soleil Love & Ocean Peace. I decided early on, having a family would be an asset to my career. I would work hard to include them in as many as my creative endeavors to come as possible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh goodness no, lol. I’d say the road for an Indie artist of any kind is anything other than smooth. It’s that roller coaster of a journey however that sets the folks that are serious diehards apart from those who see it as a side gig or a hobby. The decision to have & raise a family while pursuing this career I’ve loved as a kid definitely added to the test to see if this was going to be a career I was serious about vs. giving up to obtain a 9-5 career. There were many months I didn’t know where next month’s rent was coming from and payment arrangements became the norm though it prompted me to use my talents to push through. I allowed my family to move me to motivation vs. using it as an excuse to give up.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Along with acting, I wrote & Directed my first feature film in 2005. Learned a lot about writing & continuity in the process. Took that education & wrote, directed & co produced my 2nd feature entitled “Boys,” a mob movie which went on to win 11 awards, including “Best film” & “Best Director” @ The Beverly Hills film festival. Our next film would be a short entitled “30 Minutes to Salvation” which went on to win “Best short film” @ The LA Short film festival. Along with Lisa & myself, our children Soleil Love & Ocean Peace played profound acting roles in that production. In 2014, my wife Lisa, children Soleil Love & Ocean Peace & I moved from Massachusetts to Orlando, Florida so the kids could enjoy a fun Disney life while Lisa home schooled them. My distinct Boston accent became apparent to many causing many of my words to be misunderstood. This sparked an idea to create a series of skits around this concept entitled “The Boston Dad.” The series continues to grow organically on social media with an organic 150,000 Facebook followers, 70,000 Instagram followers, 8,000 TikTok followers & 9,000 YouTube subscribers. Recently moving back to Massachusetts, we’re now taking the series over to my first passion, making it a feature film in 2025. The film will be followed later in the year with a real life dramatic feature entitled “339,” based on my upbringing. My son Ocean Peace will be alongside me acting & producing with both projects.I currently have a series on all social media platforms called “The Boston Dad.” We are moving into production of it as a heartwarming comedic feature film this year. with our company “The Silva Screen.” From there, we will begin production on a family drama entitled “339.” I wrote both & will direct as well along with co produce. I am excited about the upcoming projects as it will allow me to showcase music I’ve written & produced. My son Ocean Peace is a very talented music artist & actor also. I am looking forward to him being able to showcase his talents in these productions also. I believe what sets me apart as an artist is I am not a one trick pony. I’m modestly able to go from comedy to drama to music with much love & little effort.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
It has certainly moved quickly in the last 5-10 years going from one online video platform such as YouTube into now several. I am guessing we are going to see even more video platforms to come allowing artists like myself to showcase our creations. I am excited to see more streaming platforms come to fruition allowing filmmakers like myself an opportunity to sell and/or showcase our hard work vs. the old days of theatrical or cable.
