Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetric Phillips.
Hi Demetric; thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I heart enrich and lead our community to become devoted followers of Christ. My family and I moved from Hawaii on December 23, 2020, to plant a church and train young athletes & artists (we firmly believe that they shape culture, and It also gives us an opportunity to mentor.). We hope to be able to provide athletes and artists scholarships as they graduate from high school.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth journey. After moving here, I could not find a job, and we only had enough money saved to make it for about 5 more months. I finally got a job at amazon, but it wasn’t enough money to support my family. I was discouraged because you have to get into the community to meet people when starting a church. I couldn’t because of work and finishing a grad degree with 4 children and a wife. Then out of the blue, a friend from college told another guy he knew who came in and believed in our vision and told me to stop working at amazon so I could focus on building a team to launch the church. He gave me a full salary.
