Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Cordoba.
Hi Diana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I was barely 12 years old, I fell in love with makeup and the artistry behind it. I would spend hours watching YouTube videos (this is also when YouTube really started growing) and playing around with color. Once I entered high school, my counselor kept asking “what do you want to do when you grow up?” I had no clue, so I would usually ignore her question until one day she asked “well, what do you enjoy doing?” and I laughed and told her how I enjoyed watching YouTube videos about makeup. She smiled, and told me I should do cosmetology school. Once I was a junior, I started cosmetology school and graduated at the age of 17 with my license and high school diploma. Soon after I worked my first wedding and fell in love with everything. fast forward to a few years later and now I get to do makeup full time and I’m living my dreams, I’ve been published dozens of times, have had my work up on billboards which was so cool to me and worked over 250 weddings! My goal is to continue to grow and build a successful team. When Covid hit, it really affected me and my business. But it did not stop me, and things will only continue to get better.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not! I always had a lot of people tell me that makeup was not a career and that I needed to find something else. And I tried, but I hated it. I’m happy I did not listen to them. Also, when the pandemic hit I had tons of weddings cancel and I was out of work for almost a year.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in bridal makeup. I love a classic bridal glam. It’s definitely what I’m “known” for. I am most proud of the photoshoot that was published and put on a billboard. It was exciting getting to see my work up there.
What sets me apart is the way I communicate with my brides, and the care and love I have toward them. I know weddings are stressful, and I try to make things as easy as possible. I also genuinely love what I do, and I think others can see it when they meet me.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes, a few things actually. Starting off with, save as much money as possible and be thankful for what you have. Life isn’t linear and it will have its ups and downs but if you only focus on the negative life will become negative. No one wants that.
