Conversations with Dj Hiitman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dj Hiitman

Hi Dj, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Miami Florida, I came to Daytona Beach for School at The Great Bethune-Cookman University actually hoping to join the Marching Wildcats but my chances seemed a miss Everytime. So I continued another fun passion of mines which would be entertainment, I joined a dance group known as What Next on campus, and I can say gravity pulled me towards the music side of the entertainment field. I can say love seeing how ppl can move with emotion based off of the words you say to bring in a track and carry it as well. I remember I came back for a winter break and my old drummajor from his school threw awesome house parties and I asked how can I be able to dj ? And all he said was “Grab a laptop, download virtual dj, practice, and when your ready go out there and do it, the MOST any human can tell you is NO, so move to the next” so I did just that and went back up to school and practiced in my dorm. I’ve often have help from friends as well such as WiLin Ent. Dj Psyco, Dj Wildchild, & Back Door Music as well Dj Pretty Ricky, Dj Corean have all helped me in a way, shape, or form. Until, Dj Nasty Nate gave me the one opportunity I needed Classic Weekend of 2015/16 can’t really remember the year at this moment. That was the start of my career. And the start of Dj HIITMANonDECK. I quickly gained recognition throughout Florida. Dj’n for Universities such as FloMo, USF, UCF, FAMU, B-CU, EWU, UNF, NCAT(GHOE). Even in venues such as King Of Diamonds, Chicago Arena. I’ve also had the pleasure of working with some amazing Talents across America, such as Yung Gordon(@YungGordon), Skeet McFlurry(@OfficialSkeetMcflurry), Wiz The Wizard(Rip), Pudge(@386Pudge), & BOSSMAN Dlow(@BossmanDlow). I have networked with so many people such as Record Label VP Markerting members, Peoffesional Booking Agents, even managers to famous celebrities such as @Tymeoutt. I cannot truly say that I am where I want to be because I know there is more out there, and I am hungry to go after it. Right now I am currently on tour with an artist as his Dj and I can only thank God first for this opportunity, my manager and my best friend and Dj Chub for this blessing to be where I am now.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely was not a smooth road at all. I became the Dj of a prestigious University known as Bethune-Cookman. But when I tell that crowd is the hardest to please in the state of Florida you wouldn’t believe me. I can recall that I was the ONLY Dj to come through BCU and got boo’d. It’s no other way to explain it. It happen about 3-4 times. It was the most impactful thing to happen to me because I knew these people and speak to them often but I don’t hear these boo’s but when I’m infront of everyone djn then it’s as vivid as a 4k to me. So I went in my dorm and didn’t come out unless it was for class . I skipped out on several meals and several practices and several parties just to be like that guy that’s up there keeping everyone happy. Until classic weekend approached then Dj HIITMANonDECK was made.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Disk Jockey, also known as Dj Hiitman. My preference of music genre is open to my hearts content, if it sounds like it can make me smile, then I’m pretty sure i can get others to feel the same. I am most proud of the fact that when friends and associates graduate from college and move on to their careers and paths. They won’t hesitate to call me to dj their birthday party for their relatives , or their wedding, or even a soft vibe for their business. The only thing that sets me apart from any one else is that I sit and listen before I attack. Don’t be like the next guy be the guy they remember throughout the night whether good or bad.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am constantly on YouTube looking up Djs who have artists and go on shows. I’m always on Apple Music trying to find a new song that sounds good with another.
