Conversations with Douglas Hurt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Douglas Hurt.

Hi Douglas, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Over 20 years ago my father in law Lorenzo Taylor had started a bbq business and I had worked for him but he had to let it go because he didn’t have the time to keep it going. Cooking was his passion he worked for Disney for over 30 years and his dream was to own his own restaurant but unfortunately he passed away in 2015 and never got the chance to see it to fruition. Lorenzo embedded that same passion in me to start my own journey with my own bbq business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No there have been many struggles and bumpy roads first it was a hassle getting all my permits and licenses. Finally got it. I still had to have a meeting with the city manager and then the endless nights and days only sleeping 2 to 3 hours getting up 2 o’clock 3 o’clock in the morning preparing food, getting things ready

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well I worked for the Coca Cola industry. I was a blender at Coca Cola for over 10 years and my same work ethic that I had there I brought over to my own company. Here at HurtsBbq I bring an old-school flavor that’s untouched and unmatched. What set me apart from everyone else is I’m not doing it just for the money. I love to see my customer face. I love to see people faces when they receive their food and when they open their container or when I hand them their container and they see the finished product And the first reaction I get is “WOW”and when I see that it just brings a joy to my face, knowing that all the hard work that I did is reciprocated from my customers faces.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
With HurtsBbq the most important thing is quality you’re getting quality when you come to HurtsBbq you getting quality and quantity.
