Today we’d like to introduce you to E.J. Bernard.
E.J., we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had an interest in film and television since I was a child. I was fascinated with the entire process. In 2006 When I was about 19, I purchased my first point and shoot camera. It wasn’t anything serious, I just wanted to document my friends and I having a good time when we went out.
It wasn’t until 2012 when I graduated from UCF with my psych degree that I began making videos and started taking my camera more seriously. I purchased a Canon T3 and began making sketch comedy videos for YouTube. From there, I started practicing taking photos for families and friends as I continued to work full time in the health insurance industry. In 2015, I was laid off and decided to go back to school.
In 2017, I graduated from Valencia College with a Film degree and Webster University with an MBA concurrently. My plan was to grow my photography and videography business doing headshots for actors and wedding receptions.
In 2018, I got my first big job photographing a huge three days Nursing convention at the Orlando Convention Center. From there, I started building my portfolio, adding on family portraits and events.
Most recently, I had the opportunity to be the On Set Stills Photographer for Credit Sesame and their latest commercial and product promotions.
In the future, I plan on expanding to include real estate photography and video.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. The most challenging thing is being persistent through all the “no’s” and closed doors especially when this is your livelihood. Everything that doesn’t happen always feels like a missed opportunity, but studying your craft, working on your gift, and preparing for the next one is an underrated opportunity in itself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer, and I specialize in portrait photos. I am most proud of the fun relaxing atmosphere that I provide for my clients. I like to play upbeat music and capture some natural smiles and laughter.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My attitude. I like to think of things I would like to do in my future. I set my intentions and let the rest go, I do not dwell. Whether things work out the way I want to right now or not, I know ultimately, things will always work out in my favor in the end.
