Conversations with Emely Faggioli

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emely Faggioli.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My unconventional story starts about ten years ago when my daughter was just a toddler. We were living in Texas, far from all the family we knew. I wanted to make sure I could capture quality pictures of her growing up to share with my family on Facebook so I purchased a Canon Rebel. Once I got this camera, I realized I had no clue how to use it or what I was doing! The pictures I ended up taking were mediocre at best. I always wanted to learn more but at that time, online education was not what it is today and with a young child, I did not have the liberty for in-person education. Fast forward a few years my good friend asked me to take “Fall” pictures of her children. Panic set in, as I thought. She must not realize I don’t actually know what I’m doing. Though she was, in fact, very aware, I was an amateur, yet she fully trusted me. This was the drive that I needed, it pushed me to learn more as I did not want to let her down. At this point, I was able to find so many amazing resources online, such as Cole’s Classroom, YouTube videos, Amy & Jordan, and blogs from other photographers.

So the day came and I went to the park with all my little notes in tow and took those fall pictures. Looking back at them, they were not perfect but we loved them. I then became so passionate that I spent all my free time learning as much as I could.

In 2018, I suffered a very devastating miscarriage. It was especially traumatic because due to some surgical mishaps, I nearly passed from a hemorrhage. Going through this experience made my husband and I realize just how fragile life can be and how lucky we were to still have each other. We immediately decided to relocate our family back to Florida after so many years. In Texas my children were so young, I completed devoted my days to being a wife and mother but now I wanted to do something that was just for me.

I decided I was going to pursue photography professionally. I took courses to refine my photography style, business methods, and posing. I upgraded all my equipment to professional-level gear and I never looked back!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say my biggest struggle has been mindset and not overthinking everything. I sometimes have ideas and end up talking myself out of them instead of just going for it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in lifestyle family photography. I am very proud of being able to help families freeze moments in time and take pictures of their families that they are proud to display in their homes. Something about having beautiful photos of the people you love the most on your walls is incredibly gratifying.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up in South Florida my family spent many weekends at the beach. Something about the salty air, towering palm trees, and the glistening blue ocean really lifts my spirits and leaves me in complete awe. Those are some of my favorite memories. Now that I have my own family, one of my dreams was to have a beautiful family beach portrait. I am very happy to say that in 2019 I checked that one off the list!
