Conversations with Emily Benitez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Benitez

Hi Emily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Emily Benitez, I’m a mother of 2 young toddlers, a 2x certified MUA, licensed Cosmologist and an entrepreneur. I started my makeup journey at 13 years old. I fell in love with makeup and the transformative and enhancing aspect about it. I started doing makeup on other people in high school for girls homecoming and fun at home editorial photo shoots. I decided to go to Joe Blasco Make-Up Artist Training center to get my makeup certification in 2011 after high school then few years down the road I received my license. Over the years I’ve done every type of makeup and worked in most industries from television, production, fashion shows, bridal, and special occasions. I fell in love with bridal and special events. To be honored as a beauty artist for someone’s special day was very fulfilling. I felt complete seeing my clients reactions when they first look in the mirror after getting their makeup done and seeing an immediate confidence boost. Some would even cry and it touches my heart. Almost 13 years later I now run a on location makeup service business with a team of assistant artist based in Orlando, Fl specializing in bridal and special occasion.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a challenging journey for sure. After having children was a major shock to the way I ran my business. I had to learn how to be a mom and also run a business at the same time.

I’ve had to gain a serious back bone when working with peoples faces and learning to work with their needs while also implementing my expertise. Being able to receive constructive feedback or sometimes not so constructive was difficult to my ego. Learning to accept others opinions and needs without taking things to heart has now become easy. It’s all about the client and their special day. A proper consultation and communication is the key to a successful makeup application which I had to learn along the way how to properly communicate with clients.

The back end business side of things is say is the hardest part. Learning to market yourself has been a big challenge and staying consistent making my self public on social media is work! I also do all the back end business tasks at the moment. I manage my finances, inventory, booking process, and marketing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I offer luxury makeup services for weddings and special occasions. I’m mainly known for my long lasting soft glam looks that still radiates who you truly are.
What sets me apart is providing a luxury makeup experience and being able to listen to my clients needs to execute it.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I’m currently with a mentor right now. It’s the best decision I’ve made so far. I’d say find someone in your industry who’s doing better than you or where you want to be and contact them for 1:1 classes or take their courses.
Networking happens everyday, everywhere you go. Anyone can be a potential client so carrying yourself that represents who you are and your business is important for meeting new people.
