Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Jaime, I am 48 years old. I am the proud owner of a 5 star Brazilian wax studio, Waxing Orlando. With over a decade of airline industry experience and multiple career transformations over 35 years, I’ve developed a remarkable ability to adapt and evolve. Thirty years ago, after a botched eyebrow wax, I bought myself a small wax warmer and taught myself facial waxing, a skill that later became a lifeline, enabling me to support myself during a challenging time. While living in women’s domestic violence shelters in South Florida and New York, I discovered the power of resilience and resourcefulness, trading services for essentials and unlocking a profound sense of inner strength. After returning to Florida, I decided it was time to make waxing a full time career.
At 42, I capitalized on a life-changing opportunity, enrolling in Aveda Institutes’ full-time esthetics program and embarking on a profoundly fulfilling new career as a licensed esthetician. I created a 10-year roadmap to success, and after graduation, I seized the opportunity to work with a renowned waxing franchise, where I gained invaluable experience that empowered me to specialize in Brazilian waxing.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
School presented its challenges, but I was determined to excel as the oldest student in the building. I simply required the license to practice and secure employment. Most esthetics schools do not provide instruction in face and body waxing. I possess high energy levels and thrive in fast-paced environments. Although I’d consider myself a jack of all trades, facials, nails, and lashes was too slow. As a versatile individual with a passion for learning, I found that specializing in one area would allow me to excel and reach my full potential.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a skilled, seasoned waxer, with advanced understanding of skin anatomy & physiology, skin histology, skincare product and ingredient knowledge, and pre and post wax treatment regimens.
I stand firmly for equality, human rights, and compassion. I am committed to creating a safe and inclusive space that reflects these principles.
My clientele is diverse, encompassing all racial, ethnic, and body type demographics. If you have a body with hair, I can provide waxing services.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to entrepreneurs starting any business is to cultivate a passion for learning and growth. Stay humble, seek guidance from experienced mentors, and view setbacks as opportunities for growth. Save wisely, plan strategically, and stay committed to your vision. With persistence and resilience, you’ll navigate challenges and achieve success.
