Conversations with Jania Shinhoster

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jania Shinhoster.

Jania Shinhoster

Hi Jania, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been an active person. Playing sports in high school and college was a great experience, but also tough on the body. I had my first back surgery in college and then in my first year of becoming a massage therapist. Massage was one of the things that always got me back to feeling like myself. During college I knew I wanted to attend massage therapy school, something just draws to this profession. Its like it was meant for me to do. I love my job. Being a massage therapist has changed my life on so many levels. After starting at a massage envy for my first job, I quickly knew that starting my own business was going to be the way to go for me. The freedom and less wear and tear on your body, because you just don’t have to work as many hours. Not understanding a ton about owning a business, I took a leap of faith. A giant leap I should say lol. Owning a business has it ups and downs, like a roller coaster. You learn just how tough you can be mentally, emotionally, and physically on a day to day basis. I’ve seen tremendous growth in my career and life, but I am not where I wish to be. I keep working on my self everyday. And I wake up every day I choose this entrepreneur lifestyle.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wish I could sit here and say its been a magical ride, but I’m not sure that how life works. There are struggles because there is always a lesson to learn. I’ve had ups and downs through out the entire journey of being an entrepreneur. From knowing how to price your services, to paying myself a salary, to making sure I have all the systems in place to run a successful business. I either have or continue to struggle with some of those things today. I’ve learned a lot from reading and listening to audiobooks, talking with other business owners and taking some classes on how to change my mindset to improve my business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I have re branded my business to help the active community stay active. I help clients that are of all levels of fitness continue to do what they love to do in their wellness journey. I take an approach of listening to what my clients are saying and I customize a massage session. We use a a variety of techniques to improve your mobility so that you feel better, function better and perform better during your workouts. I am most proud of the effect I have on my clients after they get off the table. When they can move better, and have better mobility after a session make me feel good. I believe what sets me apart is that I love all sports and fitness. I genuinely want to see others have success in their fitness journey. I ask about what movements and exercises are limited and work from there with all my I knowledge from playing 3 sports and watching all sports, and understanding how the body moves during those movements and exercises and I make a plan just for that clients needs.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being a good listener. Listening to our clients tell us about what’s going on with them and why they came in for their massage session.
