Conversations with Joshua Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Johnson.

Hi Joshua, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out being an independent artist when I was 18 doing groundwork by passing out my mixtape CDs in stores and to people back in the year of 2013, and my mixtape was called str8 fire. My mentor was Timothy Lee also known as G Da Gamespitta. I was performing at a bar called sunny’s lounge every weekend to get recognized and to connect with other artists. I started performing at Relentless studios inside Savannah mall for the anti-sex trafficking event that they had planned. On that day a lady came to me and asked me what my name was and I said Jigga J Da Gamespitta, she had liked my song and gave me knowledge and wisdom. She told me when you wake always say God help me perfect my music, keep saying it, and watch what happens. I performed at a club called karma with my friend Bumpy. But how I got here today by making a name for myself and making good music. Is by having people who has my best interest in heart, having a mentor to help me perfect my music and stay on me about it, through prayer, never giving up, staying focused, and always keeping that same energy for music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The struggles I had along the way was the funds, getting transportation to shows, and promises from an ex-music manager that’s always broken.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make great music for the streets, the clubs, and for the struggle. I specialize in reaching out to different cities and countries through the message of my music, that I’m presenting to the world. I’m known for being humble, a great friend, and a cool person to be around. I’m most proud of myself because no matter what I go through or went through I never gave up, even when I wanted to, I never did. What set me apart from others is my style, my flow, how I think, the energy that people feel when they’re around me, my taste in music, and my energy.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is when I’m at peace, learning new things, I won something, and that I never gave up. Why? Because when I pray to Allah, he makes things possible.
