Conversations with Kayla Watson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Watson.

Hi Kayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started working at Loud Gallery which was an art gallery/event center. They would host open mic nights every Monday and of course, I was there every week. I started to see and be amazed by all of the talent that the city holds in it, how creative Orlando really is and I wanted to be apart of that. So I created The Living Room Sesh, it designed to give artists a platform that is all about them, our company caters to the artist, no visual, no event is like another with LRS. I wanted artists to feel as comfortable as possible on my sets as if they were giving fans an inside look into their aesthetic, Hence why we came up with the name. So intimate and personable you feel like you are in the person’s living room.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? Not so much. I sat on the idea for 2 years. I was so nervous about starting because of all the things that could go wrong, What if people don’t like it? what if I can’t appeal to artist? Plus unplugs are a pretty saturated industry, but after having my son, I realized I have to move with passion. I want him to follow all the dreams he will have and I know to encourage him to do it, I need to do the same. So we launched The Living Room Sesh in June of 2021 with our first show in Atlanta Ga.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Creative Director but I think a better word that describes what I do is Curator. I am involved with multiple projects and brand around the city. I’ve help put together countless events in Orlando. I helped musical artists with artist development and marketing for an assortment of brands.

What does success mean to you?
I define success with happiness. I do not hold money to value. I understand we need it to survive but I think success is finding a way to make money by doing what you love doing or that you have a passion for.
