Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Gouts.
Hi Kenny, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It’s actually a pretty simple story. My co-host (Andrew Larson) and I are huge music and podcasts nerds. We had been playing with the idea of starting one that revolved around music since it would basically give us the excuse to listen to more music as well discover unheard music. We both had full time jobs so it was always a pipe dream to get started until the pandemic struck and we went into lockdown in April of 2020.
This now gave us the time to build the foundation of the podcast and start gaining experience on the microphone. Since then we have been meticulously tweaking and crafting the format of the show to make it better and better each episode and in doing so, it has become a completely different show since we first started out.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not! Besides the pandemic we were dealing with, there were multiple times that one of us got exposed to Covid so we had to learn how to do the podcast remotely. My wife was a couple of months pregnant and having a difficult 1st trimester, we were still juggling work which oddly did not slow down as we both anticipated.
The biggest struggle was that the music industry was greatly affected by Covid, so we were struggling to find enough quality content to fill the show with.
Besides that fun stuff, the daily grind of searching for new ideas, producing good content and marketing while both of us work full time is a constant struggle. If we didn’t love listening to so much music we would for sure be dead in the water.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We are a music based podcast that provides reviews on new music releases and reviews lesser known artists to help people discover new music with us. Also, we provide our takes on music industry news usually on a light-hearted basis.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The fact that we keep putting one foot in front of the other despite how difficult it can be sometimes. Also, we aim to have fun but are conscious that we need to also provide value to our listeners.
