Conversations with King Ro

Today we’d like to introduce you to King Ro.

Hi King Ro, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Orlando native, Artist, DJ, Producer, & Influencer: I started with a love of music from an early age. Growing up on Hiphop, R&B, Classic Rock, Jazz music, early electronic dance music, & country, I found a passion and feeling in the vibrations that made me feel like nothing else did. At just the age of 12, I would begin writing poetry and developing a love for writing. This later developed into writing complete songs with structure and around the age of 14, I would begin to start producing my first records. By high school, I was already producing/recording my own projects, helping other talented kids around school to record their own demos by providing them with beats and a place to record, inviting them to my house to create music. Spending much of my time on the Orlando music scene at a young age studying the game and artists who came before me, I would begin to pioneer and develop my own unique sound. Today I am recognized in the city as one of Orlando’s top young prospects in the music scene. With big global bass releases on big electronic labels like Hermanito (Los Angeles), LaClinina Recs (Miami), & Sosumi Records (UK) just to name a few. To releasing my own self-produced rap records like my debut “Trappin All Day” that reached over 50k views on YouTube alone. With the ability to write, produce, record & mix all on my own without a major label backing or record deal making the strides that I have already, it’s easy to see why people regard me as one of Orlando’s most promising emerging young artists. It’s no doubt I’m going to be one of the greatest to ever do it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path I have chosen has never been easy. As much as people would like to think Orlando is just Disney & theme parks there’s so much more to the city. I had a rough upbringing on the Eastside where I grew up without a silver spoon in my mouth. From gang violence, drugs, murders, & robberies I have damn near seen it all. I have so many stories of young friends of mine getting gunned downed or dying young in my life that keep me going through everything. Growing up in a single-parent home with my mother and my sister, I had to step up early and be the man of the house. From hustling in school or hustling in the street to keep the lights on and put food on the table, I had a strong understanding of what it meant to work hard for what I wanted in life early. I never had money for studio time/expensive laptops or equipment so a majority of the money I made for music came from my hustle. I knew if I wanted to make it happen, I had to put the work in and ultimately, I am grateful for my upbringing because it not only made me stronger as a man but also gave me the understanding on what I needed to be successful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Multi-Artist meaning that I am multifaceted in many different skill sets. From being my own artist & brand to also being a music producer making full productions & beats to also being a DJ and putting sets together, playing live to light up the crowd. Bring me into the studio and I can do it all. I am most proud of my ability and desire to learn new things and not be close-minded or one track-minded. I learned all these skill sets because I knew it would add to my value but also allow me to open more doors not just for myself but others as well. Being able to crossover into different genres/styles and wear many different hats; This versatility is definitely what’s sets me apart from my peers.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think life in general is risky. The minute we come out of the womb is risky and there’s a good chance a lot of us could die before we even live. Not to get too dark on you guys, haha but I definitely think I am BIG risk taker. You have to take risks in order to be great. You can’t live life in a “safe” bubble expecting to get the most out of life it’s just not going to happen. High-risk = High-reward.
