Conversations with Kjuana Erskine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kjuana Erskine.

Hi Kjuana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a business owner who started out doing smaller events for friends and family during my leisure time while still serving in the military. Since I have a strong passion for serving people, I decided to serve in a different capacity after my military term ended. I officially opened the business in October of 2017 primarily providing decorations for different events. Since then, I have expanded to also providing balloon art, providing event planning services, and renting a larger selection of equipment to my clients.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road starting the business. As with starting most businesses, you need money to get started. In this particular line of business, purchasing inventory is a requirement. Although I essentially provide a service, items are needed in order to provide the service. Much of my first year’s earnings were invested back into the business for inventory and supplies. Another struggle was competition and advertising. Being competitive required capitalizing on the thing/things that makes your company stand out from the others and letting everyone know about it (advertising).

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an accredited event designer and a certified balloon artist with years of experience under my belt. My team and I design, plan, and decorate multiple types of events such as corporate events, birthday parties, baby showers, private dinners, reunions, and other special events. We specialize in corporate events and are most known for our balloon decor. I am most proud of our successes along the small business journey and also very proud when we exceed our clients’ expectations. What sets us apart from others is our top-notch customer service and our attention to detail.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I first and foremost owe credit to God for giving me the gift, the passion, the ability, and the wisdom to do what I do.

I owe credit to my super helpful and supportive husband Mike for being my assistant.

I owe credit to my daughter Trenai for being a very helpful admin and a great assistant.

I owe credit to my daughter Kjuana, my son Paytawn, and my daughter in law Simone for their encouragement, support, and prayers.

Credit is also owed to my parents, siblings, family, friends, and clients for all their support.
