Conversations with Koco Gunn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koco Gunn.

Hi Koco, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I never imagined that helping women show up confidently in dance would lead me to building a coaching brand rooted in voice, visibility, and presence.

By day, I work in corporate. But in the evenings and weekends, I lead an all-women’s salsa team—and through that experience, I realized something powerful: confidence isn’t just about knowing your steps… it’s about how you carry yourself in the room. I was constantly coaching my dancers on posture, presence, and how to show up like they belonged on stage. And I loved it.

That same energy started spilling into other areas of my life. I’ve always had a passion for public speaking—it’s what I studied in school—but I wasn’t using that gift in the way I knew I could.

Everything shifted after attending a few entrepreneurial events. I started noticing that speakers weren’t truly connecting. The storytelling was dry. The stage presence wasn’t there. The message may have been valuable, but it wasn’t landing. And I knew I could help.

I’ve always had the ability to hold a room. To make people feel something. To engage—not just talk at an audience, but actually pull them in. And I thought: why am I not using this gift to help other women business owners do the same?

Still, imposter syndrome had its grip on me. I was confident in my corporate world, but stepping into something of my own? That felt different. I kept questioning myself, wondering if I was really ready. But here’s the truth: every time I step on stage, that fear disappears. My voice leads. My presence shows up first.

That’s when I knew—I wasn’t the only one who needed this kind of work. Women in business are told to build a brand, create a message, post content… but no one teaches them how to own their voice while doing it.

Now, as a visibility and public speaking coach, I help female entrepreneurs speak up with confidence and connect with their audience—whether they’re on stage, on a podcast, in a panel, or online. I help them sound like the experts they already are.

My ultimate mission is to help women become the voice of their brand—not just in what they say, but in how they say it. Because the truth is, your story is your power. And when you learn how to tell it with clarity and conviction? That’s when the opportunities start finding you.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all—and honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be.

Starting this journey while still working full-time in corporate has meant a lot of late nights, mindset battles, and moments where I questioned if I was really cut out for this. Imposter syndrome showed up often—especially outside of the safety of my job title. I knew I had the skill set, the experience, and the passion, but stepping into something of my own felt vulnerable in a whole new way.

There were moments I shrunk in rooms where I should’ve been leading. Times I dimmed my voice, not because I didn’t know what to say—but because I was afraid of being judged for saying it. But the more I showed up, the more I realized that confidence doesn’t come from waiting until you feel ready—it comes from choosing to speak anyway.

And I know I’m not alone in that. That’s why I do what I do. Because so many women are brilliant at what they do—but when it’s time to talk about it, pitch it, or lead with their voice, they freeze. That was me. And now, I help them break through it too.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Confidence and Public Speaking Coach for women entrepreneurs who are ready to stop second-guessing themselves and start owning the room.
I specialize in helping women find their voice in their business—whether that’s on stage, on camera, in panels, or in everyday conversations about what they do.

My work blends confidence coaching, communication strategy, and the art of public speaking, so my clients don’t just sound good—they feel powerful when they speak. I’m known for helping women become the voice of their brand with clarity, confidence, and main character energy.

Honestly, I’m most proud of creating spaces where women feel safe enough to show up as their full selves—and then walk out speaking with a confidence they didn’t know they had.
Watching my clients go from hiding behind their business to owning their voice, telling their story, and actually getting booked to speak? That never gets old.

I’m also proud that I didn’t wait until I felt “perfect” to start this work. I’m still working full-time, I’m still building—but I’m showing up, and that’s what I teach my clients to do too.

What sets me apart is that I don’t just teach the technical side of public speaking—I teach women how to shift the energy behind their voice.

Anyone can give you a script or teach you how to speak from a slide deck. I teach you how to speak from your story, your experience, your power.
I’ve been on stages, I’ve led dance teams, I’ve worked in corporate—and I bring all of that into how I coach. I know what it’s like to lead a room and what it feels like to doubt your own voice.

So I meet my clients where they are, and I help them speak in a way that sounds like them, not a watered-down version of what they think they should be.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
That confidence doesn’t come from waiting until you feel ready—it comes from choosing to show up even when you don’t.

For a long time, I thought I had to know more, do more, be more before I could fully step into this space. But the truth is, the more I showed up—even when I was nervous or unsure—the more clarity and confidence I built.

I also learned that your voice is your most powerful asset in business. It’s not just about what you offer—it’s about how you talk about it, how you connect with people, how you make them feel. When you learn how to trust your voice, everything else shifts.

That’s the lesson I live—and the one I teach every woman I work with.
