Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Bozanich
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Prior to my current role as a Creative Director and Photographer, I pursued a dedicated academic path in primatology, inspired by renowned figures like Jane Goodall and Dian Fossey. I earned my graduate degree through extensive research on primate behavior, including a three-month field study of Japanese macaques in Japan. While deeply fulfilling, my career in wildlife research presented significant challenges to building a family. This led my husband and I to explore a more balanced lifestyle. I transitioned into part-time roles in various fields while nurturing my passion for photography on the side. Eventually, the opportunity arose to pursue photography full-time, marking a new chapter in my professional journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The path of a professional artist, particularly one reliant on their art for income, has its significant challenges. Establishing a consistent client base and a sustainable income stream can be particularly demanding in the early stages. It takes most many years to build a consistent book of business to finally feel comfortable in their day to day.
One of my most significant challenges came from my decision to open a brick-and-mortar studio in Orlando. Although it is very exciting to open a commercial space, I quickly learned that I did not like the overhead of a lease. Some events transpired out of my control that led me to leaving the space, but overall, I take it as a great lesson learned.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Within the creative industry, I am primarily recognized as a photographer. My work is known for its distinctive vision, a unique approach to capturing and editing images, and often involves a significant degree of artistic direction, including styling and makeup. For many years, I put myself in high-pressure photoshoots in my show “SPECTACLE” which brought on novel scenarios and themes which were all captured spontaneously.
Expanding my creative scope, I have embraced the role of Creative Director. In this capacity, I oversee and guide projects, brands, and businesses on a larger scale. I excel at conceptualizing and executing campaigns, strategizing their trajectory, and fostering momentum throughout their lifecycle. Creative direction provides a valuable counterpoint to my photographic practice, engaging a different set of skills, including strategic thinking, organizational mastery, and the logistical coordination of personnel, resources, and timelines.
Beyond my creative pursuits, I am a dedicated LGBTQ+ ally and advocate. I have actively contributed significant time and effort to supporting the LGBTQ+ community and am the founder of Proud in the Cloud (St. Cloud newest pride celebration). In October 2024, my contributions were formally recognized with a Congressional Record honor by Congressman Darren Soto, a tribute to my commitment to this important cause. To this day, my commitments continue professionally and artistically to representing this community.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as a state of complete fulfillment and contentment in life. You don’t have to be rich, you don’t have to be elite, or a master of your industry. Success means you achieved all that you wanted, and you need nothing more to make you happy.
