Conversations with Lazhane Hightower

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lazhane Hightower

Hi Lazhane, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
This journey has been incredible. I started doing hair as a young teen, working on my family and high school friends. Right after graduating in 2015, I went straight into cosmetology school and completed my training. For years, I worked from home, building my skills and clientele. In 2021, I decided to start sharing my work more publicly through social media, and that’s when everything changed. My content started going viral, and from there, my business truly took off.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course, everything hasn’t been perfect, but I’ve learned how to manage and maintain through the ups and downs. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is being a people pleaser and learning to set boundaries, even with those closest to me. As a stylist and business owner, it can be tough to balance client expectations, personal time, and the demands of social media. I’ve had to grow in my confidence, prioritize self-care, and create a work environment that aligns with my values. Every challenge has been a lesson, and I’m grateful for the growth that’s come with it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Hair has always been more than just a profession for me..it’s my passion, my art, and my way of helping people feel their best. I specialize in healthy hair care, with a strong focus on silk presses and treatments that promote real, lasting results. My background as a certified trichologist allows me to educate my clients on the science behind their hair, setting me apart from many stylists.

What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built. Through my content, mentorship, and education, I’ve been able to inspire and uplift so many aspiring stylists. I love seeing my students and clients grow in their confidence, whether it’s mastering a technique or finally achieving their hair goals.

What truly sets me apart is my commitment to integrity in the industry…. I don’t just follow trends; I educate, innovate, and put my clients’ hair health first. My journey from working at home to running multiple salon suites and partnering with major brands has been incredible, but at the core, my mission remains the same: to provide quality, knowledge, and results.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
TikTok is that girl! I started creating on TikTok back in 2020, and to this day, it’s the only platform where I create my organic content. It has played a huge role in my growth, allowing me to showcase my work, educate others, and connect with a larger audience in a way that feels natural and authentic.

Beyond my career, I believe in constantly evolving…not just as a stylist, but as a person. Listening to motivational messages from Steve Harvey or reading books like Open When by Julie Smith has been a huge part of my self-care routine. These moments of inspiration help me stay grounded, push through challenges, and continue to show up as my best self, both online and in real life. Balancing creativity, business, and personal growth is key, and that mindset has been a major factor in my success.
