Conversations with Lisa Pham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Pham.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I’m Lisa from Boston, MA. I graduated from college about 2 years ago and have been working full time in the marketing field ever since. Most people online know me as Sehisa – a name I’ve created for myself years ago to use as a fun nickname and Gamertag.

I’ve always wanted to share my ideas and photos in general with the world but had wanted to remain anonymous back then so when I first started my page, I used the name Sehisa instead of my real name and it has stuck around ever since. I am the most active on Instagram where I create and share fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content. I started my account as a traveling and food page all the way back in high school.

When I started attending college, I became super busy with academics, work, and extracurriculars that I didn’t have any time to focus on my page anymore. I ended up dropping it completely. It wasn’t until the pandemic that I picked it up again as a way to cope and keep myself occupied during quarantine times and to restart what I used to love doing.

I rebranded as a fashion/beauty/lifestyle page as I felt like it was what I enjoyed doing more. It’s now my hobby and I am creating content and posting almost every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When doing social media and creating content, sometimes you can feel unmotivated and uninspired. There are days when I hit a roadblock and am not sure about what content I want to create next or if the contents I have now are good enough.

There’s always a lot of thinking involved. Social media can also be extremely draining at times and I often need to go on ” social breaks” as well. It’s important for my mental health to sometimes take a step back in order to relax and rewind away from social media and the endless engagement that I have to do.

It also doesn’t help when there are negative comments/messages/etc. being thrown at you, but it’s part of the job so I don’t take them to heart anymore.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Outside of my content creator life, I currently work full-time in the marketing field for an IT company.

I studied both advertising and business in college, so marketing is the perfect blend of the two for me. I enjoy doing marketing as a profession and am always looking for opportunities to learn and grow more within the field.

Not to mention, the skills that I learn at work sometimes help me with my content creator life such as how to brand and market myself on social media.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I’m not really a big risk-taker. The biggest risk that I took was probably what I studied in college.

It doesn’t sound as risky but coming from someone with my background, communications were not the most ideal path to choose. My parents weren’t exactly against it but they definitely wanted me to study something that would provide me with a stable job/career after I graduated such as something in the STEM field.

I wasn’t interested in anything STEM-related so I decided to just go for it and applied to study communications instead.
