Today we’d like to introduce you to Lou Mongello
Hi Lou, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in a place you might not expect—law school. I was a practicing attorney in New Jersey, but deep down, I knew my true passion lay elsewhere. I had always been fascinated by Disney, storytelling, and community-building. What started as a simple book idea about trivia and secrets of Walt Disney World quickly evolved into something much bigger.
In 2005, I launched WDW Radio, a podcast dedicated to all things Disney. At the time, podcasting was still in its infancy, and I had no idea it would become my full-time career. But I poured everything into it—creating content, building a community, and sharing my love for Disney in a way that resonated with listeners around the world. Over the years, WDW Radio has grown into an award-winning podcast, a thriving online community, induction into the Podcast Hall of Fame, and a platform that has allowed me to speak, write, and even host special events and group experiences in Disney destinations worldwide.
Along the way, I realized that my experience in building a business around my passion could help others do the same. That led to the creation of Momentum, a series of events, coaching, and resources designed to help solopreneurs, creators, and entrepreneurs turn what they love into what they do.
It hasn’t always been easy—leaving a stable career in law for the unknown was terrifying—but it was the best decision I ever made. Now, I get to do what I love every day, connect with an amazing community, and help others do the same.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any meaningful journey, the road has been anything but smooth. Leaving behind a stable career as an attorney to pursue my passion for Disney and content creation was a huge leap of faith—and it came with plenty of challenges.
In the early days, podcasting wasn’t a proven path, and I had to navigate everything from learning the technology to building an audience from scratch. There were times when I doubted myself, wondering if I had made the right decision. Financial uncertainty was real, and figuring out how to monetize my content in a way that felt authentic and valuable was a struggle.
Beyond that, I had to overcome my own mindset challenges—imposter syndrome, the fear of asking for what I was worth, and the pressure of sustaining a business that depended entirely on me. I’ve also had to constantly adapt, as the digital landscape, social media, and content consumption habits have evolved over the years.
But every challenge taught me something valuable. Those struggles helped me grow, push past my comfort zone, and find creative ways to serve my community. They reinforced why I started in the first place—to share my passion, build meaningful connections, and help others turn what they love into what they do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear a few different hats, but at the core of everything I do is storytelling, community-building, and helping others turn their passion into their profession. I’m the founder and host of WDW Radio, an award-winning podcast that dives deep into the history, details, and stories of Disney Parks, Disney Cruise Line, and more. I specialize in bringing Disney history and experiences to life, making every episode a journey that informs, entertains, and inspires.
Beyond the podcast, I’m also an author, speaker, entrepreneur, and coach. I created Momentum, a series of workshops, retreats, and events designed to help solopreneurs and creators build, grow, and monetize their businesses. I’m passionate about helping people take what they love and turn it into something sustainable—just like I did.
What sets me apart is the deep sense of community I’ve built around WDW Radio. It’s not just a podcast—it’s a family. I’m incredibly proud that this community isn’t just about consuming content, but about real connections, friendships, and shared experiences, from group cruises to live events.
I think what makes my work different is the way I combine deep research, storytelling, and heart. Whether it’s an episode of WDW Radio, a keynote speech, or a coaching session, I focus on making everything engaging, insightful, and, most importantly, valuable. At the end of the day, I love what I do, and I hope that passion shines through in everything I create.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
It’s hard to pick just one memory because, for me, it’s not about a single moment—it’s about a feeling. My childhood memories of visiting Walt Disney World with my parents are a little muddled, blending together across different trips. But what stands out isn’t just the rides or the attractions—it’s how being there made us feel.
There was this shared sense of wonder, joy, and togetherness that we had the moment we stepped onto Main Street, heard the music, and saw the castle ahead. We left the outside world behind and just experienced something magical—together. That feeling is what kept me going back, time and time again. And eventually, it became the reason I wanted to help others create those same kinds of memories for themselves.
That’s what led me to start writing, podcasting, and building WDW Radio. I wanted to share the stories, history, and experiences that make Disney so special—not just for me, but for the millions of people who feel that same connection. Over time, that passion expanded beyond just Disney—it led me to help businesses learn from Disney’s approach to customer experience and service and incorporate those lessons into their own brands. And it’s also what inspired me to help creators and solopreneurs turn what they love into what they do, just as I did.
So while I may not remember every single detail of every childhood trip, I do remember how it made me feel. And that feeling has shaped everything I do today.
