Conversations with Louise Buhrmann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Louise Buhrmann.

Hi Louise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always taken art lessons since childhood. In the early 90’s I decided to pursue sculpture and now work in a variety of mediums. Sculpture is my retirement job although I don’t get to do it as much as I would like. Being secretary of the Florida Sculptors Guild takes time.

Art helped my survive and flourish in a 42 year career in medicine, Now I enjoy helping others have a venue for their art as well as showing my own.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles have had to do mostly with time but there was a time when my art teachers car was repossessed with the wax of my bronze sculpture to be in it. It melted in the August sun. It was several years before I went back to making the wax from a mold and went on to make the bronze version

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have done most found objects upcycled via welding in the last few years. But I have worked in clay, and later bronze. More recently I have worked in resin.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Get some classes and then join a group of other artists for support and advise.
