Conversations with Luis Mendez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Mendez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I didn’t come into real estate with a big name or a big following, I started with nothing more than a desire to serve people and make a difference in my community. At first, I was just trying to find my footing, learning the business one step at a time, and figuring out how to stand out in a crowded market.

What really changed things for me was when I shifted my focus from just “selling houses” to truly building trust. I created a local Facebook group for Lake Wales that became a space where people could connect, share, and support one another. That decision alone opened doors I never expected. It took me from being relatively unknown to closing a lot of homes, all because people felt they knew me, trusted me, and could count on me.

Over time, I built on that foundation — helping not only first-time buyers and families, but also investors, sellers, and even luxury clients. My goal has always been the same: make the process as smooth as possible and give people the kind of honest guidance I’d want for my own family.

Today, I’m still growing, still learning, and still working toward being the best realtor in my town. But more than anything, I’m grateful — because every client I help isn’t just a transaction, it’s a relationship and a chance to leave a positive impact on someone’s life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most people starting out in real estate, I had to learn the hard way that success doesn’t come overnight. At the beginning, I struggled with rejection, not knowing where my next client would come from, and honestly battling self-doubt. There were moments when it felt like I was putting in all the work with little to no return.

Another challenge was breaking through the noise. In this business, everyone seems to know a realtor, so I had to figure out how to separate myself from the competition. That’s when I realized relationships would be my edge. I focused on building genuine connections, creating value for people before ever asking for their business, and staying consistent even when the results weren’t immediate.

There were also personal struggles, balancing family, ministry, and business wasn’t always easy. But every setback has shaped me. The struggles forced me to get creative, stay disciplined, and remember why I started in the first place: to serve people, not just sell houses.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a realtor here in Polk County, and what I do goes far beyond buying and selling homes. My focus is helping people navigate one of the biggest financial and emotional decisions of their lives with confidence, clarity, and peace of mind.

I work with all types of clients first-time buyers, sellers, investors, and even those looking for luxury properties but what I specialize in is building trust and simplifying the process. I want my clients to feel informed and cared for every step of the way, not pressured or left in the dark.

What I’ve become known for in my community is being approachable, consistent, and community-focused. The local Facebook group I started in Lake Wales has connected thousands of people, and many of my clients first found me there not through an ad, but through genuine interaction. That’s something I’m really proud of because it proves that relationships matter more than sales pitches.

What sets me apart is that I’m not just focused on closing deals. I bring the same heart I have as a Soul Winner into my work as a realtor treating people with honesty, patience, and care. My goal isn’t just to sell a home, but to create a long-term relationship where my clients know they have someone in their corner for life.
