Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Van Horn.
Hi Mallory, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I moved to Orlando I was a model, and always wanted to use more of my intellect than my beauty. One of my close friends convinced me to learn how to trade and it was over from there on out. I started off doing forex and now I’m a professional futures trader. For years I spent every day learning, trading, and perfecting my craft. I have always been the type to flow through different avenues and try everything, but trading was just something I was naturally good at. Now almost 4 years down the line I have become funded with multiple prop firms, and also mentor newbies and professionals in the futures market.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No absolutely not. The road to success has been way more difficult than I ever could imagine. But I believe it had to be that way, blindly following the next step. Otherwise, if someone had told me how hard it was going to be I wouldn’t have gone it. There’s been many nights I had cried myself to sleep out of frustration. Many fights because no one saw the vision. Months of complete isolation where I felt my absolute loneliest. Nobody prepares you how being in your purpose is the most difficult excruciating process ever, but it’s worth it when you see the type of character God prepares you in the midst of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a professional Futures and Forex trader. I am funded almost 2 million dollars in funds. I am also getting my licensing and degrees in order to work within hedge funds. I specialize in trading the Dow Jones index. What sets me apart from other traders is being a woman in a male dominated field and allowing that to be my strength. Women deal with complex emotions on a daily basis, so I use the skill of managing mine to my advantage. I am very proud to be part of the very very few percentage of traders that actually make it.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Honestly, if I could go back I probably would have scared younger me into doing trading. The advice I would give people wanting to become a trader is yes you will see a lot of people flexing the pros of this industry, the money; but money always comes at a cost. This industry will test you beyond your limits. Trading is all mental. You really do have to be a master at your emotional state, and a little mentally insane to become the best. Theres a reason 99% of people who become a trader quit. This isn’t for the weak. But for the very few who decide this is for them, I’d always recommend to not waste your money self learning like I did. Get a mentor that actually knows what they’re doing.
