Conversations with Marcus Laurore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Laurore.

Hi Marcus, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was in TV Production all throughout high school and really enjoyed creating videos. When I graduated, I knew I still wanted to make videos or maybe even films but I had no clue where to even start. I went to a couple of different schools like Georgia State and Full Sail in their film programs but I just wasn’t happy. I hated school. I didn’t see myself going through this process. I was stuck. My only means of escape was my love for EDM. I ended up meeting a show promoter/artist manager who gave me a shot at filming his shows and artists. That sparked a flame in me. I was filming an EDM show. I was doing what I enjoy the most while listening to my favorite music. I found what I wanted to do. Or at least I thought I did. This was just the tip of the iceberg. Over the years, there were so many highs and lows in my personal life that impacted me as a creative in the music industry from mental health issues to financial adversity. I almost gave everything up. All I was doing was working my day job. 40+ hours a week as a valet barely getting by. I believed that valet was my end all be all. I ran from my problems because all I did was work a job I hated. The pandemic hit. I, much like everyone else, was forced to stop and deal with my depression and other issues. And I did just that. Orlando started to open back up and shows started to come back. My good friend, the Wolf, booked a show at Celine last June and brought me out to shoot it. I was re-energized and determined to be successful in the industry. And I did just that. Fast forward a year, and I have worked with some of my favorite artists, and done countless shows in cities like Atlanta, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, and here in Orlando. I have big plans in the works and I am very excited for the future. I’m truly blessed.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My mom and I came to Florida from France when I was 3. It has always been my mom and me. No one else. She started a hair salon and built it from the ground up. I learned about hard work from her. She taught me how to grind. How to hustle. Now, anyone who is a child of an immigrant parent or parents, knows there is a big expectation to do very well in school, find a great career line, and be successful. Me being raised by a single mom who is religious and foreign, that expectation was a lot of pressure that I had no choice but to carry. There was a lot of pressure on me from outside forces like school authority figures growing up too and I put a lot of pressure on myself during the rise and the reign of social media. So much pressure that it weakened my mental state and I lost myself for a while.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a freelance videographer & photographer. I specialize in Music and Live Events. I am definitely known for working with electronic music artists shooting their DJ sets, press photos, and social media content. My proudest moment was shooting EDC Vegas in May. I used to watch the Livestream while I was in bed and just vibing. And EDC is from dusk till dawn so I would be up all night! I think what sets me apart from others is how open I am and how hard I work.

What was you like growing up?
I was a loud kid. I was very social and energetic. Used to be in choir for years as well as theatre. I always had a love for music since I was a baby. Definitely carried over to adulthood. Picked up longboarding around 7th grade and still like to stake every once in a while.
