Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Riboli.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My love for photography was born with my dad. He always took pictures of us, during holidays or just because the flowers were blooming during spring. He used to say “I’m stopping the time that goes by”…
I’m so thankful now to have so many memories!
My background is in theater and film and it connects to my love of story telling. I approach any photoshoot with that mentality. Telling a story…
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road is ever smooth, but you try to adjust and keep going. Every year has a different vibe and some might be great ones and others very light and you just have to reinvent yourself. But I believe no matter what, stay true to what you love and don’t fall into trends cos that’s all they are…they will be gone before you blink and then you are left with just you and if you don’t know who you are as an artist you will get lost…
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I always love portrait work! From families, to couples, to branding and boudoir I just love the one on one time I get with my clients.
I also do a lot of weddings and I always take a moment to feel how lucky I am to be able to capture one of the happiest days in someone’s life. Those days are usually very long and hard for me, but there’s something in the joy that surrounds those events that is thrilling and so fulfilling!
How do you think about happiness?
That is a deep question and I love deep conversations…but for the sake of not writing an essay on happiness I would say that doing what I love makes me happy, to be able to make people re-live a moment and still feel everything connected to it, it’s a very happy feeling for me…
But the real happiness for me comes from the people in my life who I love and adore…a simple afternoon vinyl shopping with a stop at a nice coffee shop for a treat…that is happiness to me…
