Conversations with Matthew Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Paul.

Hi Matthew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I grew up in south downtown Orlando. After graduating in 2008, I had filled my life with distractions which prevented me from thriving like I wanted to. Partying was a priority and which prevented me from finishing college. I ended up working construction. I always heard the expression “show me your 5 closest friends and I’ll show you your future” which at the time did not resonate. Being the hard-headed individual I am I continued to put myself in unsavory situations and make bad decisions. I was never able to take responsibly for my actions and was always quick to come up with excuses or put the blame on something or someone else. After years of living in this continuous cycle, I had become depressed and felt like I was stuck. I have isolated myself from friends and family leaving me feeling alone and hopeless. In 2018, at the age of 27, I had had enough and decided to do something different. I moved to Longwood and surrounded myself with people who had what I wanted. The material things were nice but more importantly, I wanted healthy relationships, peace of mind, humility, sense of purpose, and overall happiness. The things that money can’t buy. I started practicing these spiritual principles in my daily life and as I grew my dreams got bigger and life had gotten better. During the start of the pandemic, I was let go from my job. Instead of playing the victim, I learned that when one door closes another door opens. My brother had offered me a great job drawing CADD. As I worked full time I started planning and executing my future, my destiny. I received my real estate license with Homevest Realty and started a company that builds container homes named Connex Custom Builds. After 1 year of sacrifice and hard work, I was able to take the leap of faith and go full-time self-employed. My goal and purpose had become helping families achieve the dream of home ownership. Today my life is full, my businesses are steadily growing and as I reach new milestones, I remind myself that the sky is the limit. My business partners are the people who I previously mentioned had what I wanted and somewhere along my journey, I have received a life beyond my wildest dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. The biggest struggle was within myself. Having faith that I will succeed and not letting fear control my life was detrimental. Maintaining balance with relationships had become an obstacle. Consistency and grit were a huge part of my success. It was the small daily battles that win the big war.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a realtor for Homevest Realty, and part of the Keith Moore Team which has consistently been top 2% in Central Florida. I assist people through the whole process of selling and purchasing a home. I go above and beyond for my clients making the process as smooth as possible. I use all of my connections and knowledge to provide an extraordinary experience with my customers. I am known for my aggressive yet effective strategy, communication, and consistency. My other business is Connex Custom Builds LLC. which constructs container homes throughout Florida. We are known for our quality of work and affordability. We are one of few builders who exist in Florida and offer everything from acquiring land, engineering, planning, building, and permitting for this simple affordable housing solution.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Surround yourself with people who have what you want and do what they did to get it. Stay open-minded, honest, and willing. Do not let your past determine your future. Stay consistent and always have goals.
