Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Dos Anjos.
Hi Michelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
To select and arrange different pieces of clothes in such a way to create a cool outfit has always been my passion. While growing up this passion grew stronger and stronger to the point where I left a career as a layer to persuit it. My desire is to help other women look beautiful and well-dressed. I noticed that for many ladies choosing the “right” outfit for any occasion was a difficult task,so I decided to study to become a Personal Stylist. In 2018, I graduated as a Personal Stylist from the New York Institute of Art and Design. This was the first step, but I knew that the services provide by a Personal Stylist is not affordable for everyone. Focusing on wealthy people is not the vision I have for my business. I’d like to show that you don’t need to break the bank to dress well which is why I created my own business called Pararrasar Fashion Box: A fashion box subscription. The subscription is for a monthly box containing 4 items of clothes and accessories for each subscribed month. Each box has two pieces of clothes and shoes or bag, specially selected to fit the customer style and one accessory hand selected to harmonize with the outfit, all that for only $59,90 per month.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way, I think the biggest challenge is convincing women to think outside the box and try new shapes, colors, and styles. Even with a very low cost, many are still afraid to try on a look that differs from their own style. I constantly have to assure each client that the outfit I picked out for them will make them look great while trying to help them get over some insecurities or lack of confidence. I try to empower each woman by providing them a fresh look into how they dress and, most importantly, how they feel in their new look. This is often my hardest job.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a Personal Stylist, I have knowledge about body shapes and the type of clothes that will fit better for each person, plus I can help the women to find their main style, in other words, I help them find new ways to look at clothes on the rack as they shop and guide them to a broader style choice. Ultimately, most people I encounter end up being comfortable with their own style and lack the vision to see the new trend, have a fear of buying something that won’t look good, or do not know how to put something together which is what keeps them in their “safe style zone”.
What I am most proud of is my ability to dress women that I have never met. Most of my clients are women who I had never had the pleasure of seeing (either in pictures or in person) but by asking about their styles, getting good body measurements and truly getting to know them I am able to imagine an outfit that works and empowers them.
How do you think about luck?
The luck of handwork! Not much luck goes into what I do. I guess you could say that I am lucky to have found this ability to be able to dress people. I’ve also been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to move to the United State where my type of services is a lot more viable than where I came from, Brazil.
