Conversations with Michellee and Roberto Perez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michellee and Roberto Perez.

Hi Michellee and Roberto, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Shelly and I met in NYC attending an NYC Teaching Fellowship Program where we worked as educators for students with disabilities.

We were dating in the program and we both were in relationships. Somehow we met up a few years later where we were both single and living a few minutes from each other, somehow we never noticed we lived so close.

Our social media adventure begins with our daughters, Chas and Sam. In 2019, our girls couldn’t stop talking about “TikTok” and as parents, we decided to download it, for a few reasons First to see if it was appropriate, and second Rob always loved video editing so he wanted to see what was new and how he could create small clips for the family.

We always had a YouTube channel but it never really took off, plus it was more personal. One day, Rob decided to upload our second wedding dance in which we dance a bachata-style dance to “Promise” by Romeo Santos. Rob doesn’t know how to dance but somehow he looked like a dancer.

Combine the dancing, with the excitement of the guest, the video slow motions and we had a video that generated 2 million+ views. We now sit at 128K followers, a beautiful community of people who love and support us, who also help us give back to our new home of Florida. Our community has seen us move from NYC to FL, seen Shelly’s Pregnancy to seeing our son’s (Isaiah) first birthday

They have seen our struggles during Covid and how we battled and kept our heads high just to survive but we always maintain a smile on our faces.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
To many being a social media “influencer” seems easy. We are FAR from being influencers but we do have a pretty good platform. It is tough! Sometimes you feel like you understand the algorithm and see numbers going high! Then the rest of the week’s numbers are low.

You’re forced to create ideas, film the videos, edit the videos, post the videos, make sure you’re not posting anything that can come back and hurt the brand, trying to get everyone on the same page to film (when it’s not your full-time job, it’s pretty much a glorified hobby). We don’t make the funds people think we do, and sometimes you’re losing money just to collab with companies and other influencers for a chance at going viral.

That’s just a little bit but it can become frustrating and overwhelming. But doesn’t every job have its pros and cons? The reason we are willing to keep going is because of our goal. Our goal Is to help and give back! We feel we have a great opportunity here and we will keep going!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are considered “TikTok Influencers “ even though we don’t necessarily see ourselves that way. We are known for being the funny, cute, bachata wedding dance couple. What I (Rob) am most proud of, is this holiday season, we were able to create a go fund me and raise a few hundred dollars.

We created a “Shellyrob Share a smile” and completed random acts of kindness 1st we completed an “operation Santa” letter. Operation Santos is a program by the USPS where anyone can write a letter to Santa, some people for fill those wishes

2nd we gave away 2 Orlando Magics tickets. 3rd we purchased and donated gifts for 17 children in a church! 4th we purchased 10 pizza pies and donated them to the homeless and workers who worked in the heat. 5th we created a care package and donated it to a homeless man. 6th we had a family breakfast where we tipped a waiter working the holidays $125.

This is our main goal. To be a sign of happiness and hope for people. My wife and I were born in the Bronx and didn’t grow up rich. We want to give back and help people and children who came from places as we did.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Favorite Books Rob loves Jurassic Park he even used a quote in his wedding vows! During Covid, Rob also published his own Children’s book that’s available on Amazon entitled “Isaiah the adventurous Iguana Visit to the White House”.

Shelly’s favorite book is “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn.
